Xiaomi introduces new lithium batteries with o 10% higher capacity while keeping the same dimensions

Xiaomi unveiled an upgraded battery that will be integrated into devices. The company wants to integrate this technology into its devices already next year.

Xiaomi surprised again

The Chinese giant shared this great news via a post on the Chinese social network Weibo. According to it, the company managed to increase the share of silicon—by up to about three times.

As a result, you get approximately 10 % more mAh and up to 100 minutes of extra runtime on a single charge. Sounds like great news—what progress this Chinese company has managed to pull off!

With this new battery, Xiaomi is counting on the second half of 2022. That means we’ll soon get a higher battery capacity without the smartphone having to be thicker, or other devices such as smartwatches.

Safety first

Plus, Xiaomi doesn’t forget about safety either. The packaging technology is significantly improved, and the company can manage space efficiency better. The PCM module (Protection Circuit Module) was tilted by 90 degrees, preventing it from laying flat—which means you can save some space even this way.

There are also various capacity-measuring sensors based on advanced algorithms. They improve the safety and lifespan of individual battery cells.

An important sensor is also the one for measuring the battery temperature. By overheating it, the temperature of the whole device rises and the battery gradually loses its capacity. In the worst case, it could even explode.

Battery temperature is also linked to the problem of overcharging it. Usually, people leave a smartphone on the charger all night. Modern smartphones already have algorithms to fully charge the battery just a few minutes before the scheduled alarm.

We’ll see how Xiaomi ultimately handles it, but having a higher battery capacity with the same dimensions sounds like something smartphone owners will definitely appreciate. We’re curious in which device this new battery will make its debut.
