Xiaomi has officially hinted at the arrival of its first compact tablet, aiming to rival the iPad Mini, but don’t expect it to be announced together with the series of Xiaomi 15T or with the Watch S4 41 mm watch. September 24 won’t be the day this tablet debuts. However, we learned that the Xiaomi Pad Mini will essentially be a global version of the Chinese Redmi K Pad, with the hardware staying practically unchanged.

Xiaomi Pad Mini will offer powerful hardware in a compact body

If you were waiting for a compact Android tablet that won’t be just about basic specs and weaker performance, Xiaomi can finally win you over. The new Xiaomi Pad Mini is based on the Redmi K Pad model, which is already sold in China, and the manufacturer has now also confirmed it for the global market—though without a sales start date for now.

The hardware lineup looks very promising. Xiaomi Pad Mini will offer 8,8-inch LCD display with a resolution of 3K (3088 × 1600 px) and extremely smooth, 165 Hz refresh rate, which you’ll appreciate in games as well as everyday scrolling. The body weighs just 326 grams, so you’re looking at a truly lightweight and portable tablet.

Inside, there’s a powerful chip MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ that can handle even demanding apps, games, and advanced multitasking. A 7 500 mAh battery is also included, supporting fast 67 W charging via cable and even 18 W reverse charging—so you can top up other devices directly through the tablet.

One of the premium benefits is also the USB-C port in version 3.2 with support for DisplayPort Alt Mode, meaning you can connect the tablet to an external monitor and use it as an even more full-fledged work tool. For now, only one color option has been shown with a matte, sandblasted finish, but Xiaomi has also already revealed an official case, which may suggest there will be more color variants.

As for availability, Xiaomi hasn’t revealed any specific date yet. So it’s clear that the Pad Mini won’t show up on September 24 during the launch of the Xiaomi 15T series, but it’s only a matter of time before it makes its way to the European market too.

Xiaomi Pad Mini

Overall, though, Xiaomi Pad Mini looks like a long-missing piece in the Android tablet market. It should be a compact yet powerful tablet with a modern display and features you won’t find even in most larger models. If the price tag is reasonable, it could be a truly interesting option—especially for those looking for an iPad mini alternative, but with Android.
