Our favorite Chinese maker Xiaomi is preparing at least three more of its devices with a flagship chipset from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. series. And we already know the first leaks of information.
Three new smartphones with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus
Popular leaker Digital Chat Station brings a new leak, saying Xiaomi is working on three more smartphone models with a flagship Snapdragon chipset. Specifically, it should be an upgraded and not-yet-announced processor expected to be called Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus, which should also come with a 2K display.
A post on the Chinese social network Weibo talks about three devices, but we don’t have to get excited only about strictly premium flagship devices. The author of this post also mentions mid-range and higher mid-range models.
If we imagine a higher mid-range model with a flagship processor, it can automatically bring to mind the portfolio of the Redmi sub-brand Redmi. It’s well known for similar specs. And in the K50 series, besides top-end processors, it has already introduced a 2K display in a fairly affordable device. However, the alternative could also be a model from the Xiaomi MIX series.
Premiere already in the second quarter of the year 2022
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus processor should be based on the 4 nm process from TSMC. This should solve most of the thermal and performance shortcomings of the current Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 version, i.e. the one made using the 4 nm manufacturing process by Samsung.
It’s expected to use an architecture in the style of “1 + 3 + 4”. Meaning: one ultra-high-performance core Cortex X2, three Cortex A710 cores, and then four Cortex A510 cores. Some sources also say this processor should be used in the Xiaomi 12 Ultra. smartphone as well. Thanks to that, it should become a leader in terms of computing power and even beat, for example, the Xiaomi 12 Pro model.
The new and improved Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus model should be launched in the second quarter of 2022. The mentioned trio of Xiaomi smartphones could therefore go on sale around the same time, i.e. in approximately April / May / June 2022.
