When Xiaomi entered the world of electric vehicles, many people thought it would be just a short-lived experiment. Today, however, it’s clear that Lei Jun and his team have much bigger ambitions. The latest proof is the Xiaomi YU7 GT, which has just officially appeared in the database of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

And if you think this is only a slightly sportier version of a regular model, get ready for a cold shower. This is an almost 1000-hp electric GT that definitely isn’t playing it low-key.

Officially confirmed: performance that takes your breath away

Based on the registration documents, this is a full-fledged performance version of the YU7 model. Xiaomi has fitted a dual-motor, purely electric drivetrain, sounding more like a supercar’s spec sheet than a family sedan. The front electric motor delivers 288 kW, the rear up to 450 kW—together that’s a massive 738 kW, which is roughly 990 horsepower.

Such power enables a top speed of up to 300 km/h, a figure that until recently belonged exclusively to cars bearing the logos of Porsche, Ferrari, or Lamborghini. With this, Xiaomi clearly shows it doesn’t want to only take on the Tesla Model S Plaid, but is entering the territory of established premium brands.

Design that shouts GT

Xiaomi YU7 GT differs from the standard version at first glance. The front end has received a completely new bumper and widened fenders, making the car look lower, wider, and more aggressive. The rear is enhanced with a distinctive diffuser and a red GT badge that leaves no doubt about which version you’re dealing with.

Another detail is the red brake calipers, hinting at high-performance, possibly even carbon-ceramic brakes. The car rides on 21-inch wheel discs, and the overall look clearly communicates that this isn’t a manager’s sedan, but an electric highway weapon.

The dimensions of YU7 GT confirm that Xiaomi is targeting the large, high-performance sedan segment. Length over 5 meters, width over 2 meters, and a 3,000 mm wheelbase mean not only stability at high speeds, but also generous interior space. This GT shouldn’t be a compromise between sport and comfort—it’s meant to deliver both.

There’s also an impressive number of optional elements that MIIT documents have revealed. Xiaomi will let customers personalize the car—from lighting details, side mirrors, and spoilers to wheel design, caliper color, and body decals. You can see the brand is learning fast and understands that in this class, individualization is key.

Batteries from CATL and a question mark over the price

Powering this electric beast is a ternary lithium battery from CATL, which is currently the absolute top in the EV battery field. The exact capacity is not known yet, but it can be expected that Xiaomi will balance between high performance and a usable driving range. As for the price, Chinese sources mention a range of 450,000 to 500,000 yuan, which is approximately $60 to $70 thousand. And that’s where we get into a sensitive topic.

Xiaomi already has experience with an extreme performance version. SU7 Ultra may have caused a huge stir at launch, but the reality was harsh. By the end of last year, its sales had dropped to roughly 45 units per month. It turned out that although people admire the tech and performance, only a few are willing to pay a high price for the tech brand’s first-generation sports car.

If the YU7 GT is priced close to the SU7 Ultra, Xiaomi will face the same challenge. Technically, it could be one of the most interesting EVs on the market, but convincing customers to choose Xiaomi instead of traditional brands won’t be easy.
