The problem of plastic piling up on our land is truly serious. Unnecessary tons of plastic waste flood our land every day and destroy our environment. Leading smartphone manufacturers have started addressing this issue anew.

Maybe you noticed during the introduction of the new devices from the iPhone 12 series that Apple decided to be more eco-friendly and stopped including headphones and adapters in the power outlet with their smartphones. Other manufacturers aren’t idle.

Samsung and Xiaomi respond

Almost everyone, a slightly directionless but excited smartphone enthusiast, reacted to this controversial news from Apple. Fans split mentally into two camps—some support Apple for this decision, others don’t hold back with sharp words.

Competitive smartphone makers therefore have a great opportunity to pull the crowd of concerned fans toward them and get a bit more visibility. A fitting example would be Samsung or Xiaomi.

Xiaomi reduces 60 % plastics in packaging

On Xiaomi’s official Twitter account, the following post was shared. It refers to the packaging of the Xiaomi Mi 10T Lite smartphone, where the manufacturer kept all the accessories we’re used to, while still reducing up to 60% of plastics.

You can see that Xiaomi, but also other manufacturers, are also taking a jab at Apple in connection with adapters—which is, on the other hand, understandable. Either way, Apple deserves respect, because they were the first to make such a radical decision, with the risk of upsetting many loyal users.

Is it all about profit?

It would be silly to pretend that Apple is also not doing this for profit, which definitely won’t be small. Lower costs for adapters also lead to a smaller box, which further allows shipping several packages at once—thereby reducing shipping costs as well.

The fact is that every year, up to 300 thousand tons of discarded charging adapters pile up in landfills. This alarming number is what the American giant is trying to reduce with its decision, which is why it undoubtedly deserves admiration.

If you follow what’s going on in the Xiaomi smartphone world, you’ve surely noticed that the manufacturer keeps innovating in the charging area. Just recently, the manufacturer introduced the fastest wireless charging in the world with power up to 80 W.

Since Xiaomi is gradually pushing the limits of charging performance, the decision to stop including adapters with its smartphones would be much more complicated. Getting a custom 100 W charger would definitely not be a cheap affair.
