The presentation of new phones from the Redmi brand is drawing closer fast. On 29. August / August 2019, Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro phones will be unveiled in China. The brand director, and even the brand itself on its official Weibo profiles, are sharing more and more information.

More information about the new phones is coming in

From experience with previous Redmi devices, we know that the closer the press conference date gets, the more we learn about the new devices. It’s no different now either. Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro are shaping up to be truly interesting devices.

We already know that the new Redmi phones will feature up to four different cameras, with the primary one using a 64 MP sensor Samsung GW1.

The sensor will create photos in an incredible 9248 x 6936 px resolution. The sensor size is 1/1.7″ and it’s 38% larger than the previous 48 MP sensors. A larger sensor means better light throughput, and therefore better photos in poor lighting conditions. The sensor also brings technologies like Smart ISO or Hybrid 3D HDR, which is powered by hardware-based HDR.

Cameras that don’t have any real competition in phones yet

Now Redmi has released several promotional posters that highlight the camera quality.

The first poster shows a cross-section of the phone’s rear camera sensors. Even though it focuses only on three, we can see that there’s a fourth sensor to the right of the triple camera. Most likely, it will be a ToF camera (Time of Flight), used for example to measure distance through the camera with the help of augmented reality.

The headline of this poster explains how much phone cameras have improved over the last two decades. In 1999, phones had one camera capable of shooting at 0.1 MP. Twenty years later, phones have four rear cameras and can capture photos with 64 MP resolution.

The next poster talks about the ultra-clean quality of the sensor. The camera sensor is said to have very high detail, so you can zoom into the final photo up to 25 times and it will still have a sharp image.

The latest promotional poster shows the resolution of the primary 64 MPx camera, which has 9248 x 6936 pixels. That’s almost twice the resolution of 8K and 7,7 times larger than the resolution of 4K UHD. The sensor resolution on the new Redmi Note 8 exceeds the 25p FHD resolution by up to 1080-times.

And a few more details from Redmi’s CEO

Lu Weibing – the CEO of the Redmi brand – on his Weibo social media profile outlined 5 reasons why Redmi decided to use a sensor with such high resolution. And here’s how he explained it:

1. A 64 MPx resolution of 9248 × 6936 provides 34% more optical information than 48 MPx, showing more detail.
2. With 64 MPx, you can go straight to large-format photography, which can give you more creative space.
3. With 64 MPx, you don’t need a telephoto lens—after shooting and zooming in, you can display an almost perfect optical zoom effect.
4. At 64 MPx, night viewing supports synthetic pixels with a size of 1.6 µm, four-in-one, so it’s equivalent to freely switching between ultra-large and large pixels.
5. The hardware base is still very large—64 MPx has a 1/1.7-inch sensor size, which is still the largest camera sensor for mobile phones on the market.

In his post, he then published the following photo:

And another interesting photo. This is how a printed 64 MPX photo would look at its original size:

Redmi is once again stirring up quite a splash in the mobile market. We believe we’ll soon learn more details about the upcoming Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro.
