Xiaomi is still moving forward. Every year it sells more and more units of smartphones, and the current factories probably aren’t enough anymore. The new Xiaomi factory will be able to produce up to 10 million smartphones per year.
A new Xiaomi factory without people
It will run purely automatically and there won’t be any human workers in it. It’s supposed to be a completely new generation of advanced factory. All processes will be automated and humans won’t physically interfere with them at all.
The portal ChinaDaily reported this. It also says that the Chinese giant is investing a considerable amount in improving production processes, especially in the area of intelligent manufacturing.
Xiaomi already has a similar factory—it produces Mi 10 Ultra
Lei Jun, CEO and founder of the company, says that the new goal was set after the first intelligent factory from Xiaomi completed its first half-year of operation. It is located in the southeast part of Beijing, named Yizhuang.

The area of this factory is 1600 square meters and it can produce more than one million premium smartphones per year. This is thanks to a special autonomous production line that operates without human intervention. For example, the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra model is manufactured there.
Where the new factory will be built is not known yet. Lei Jun also said that China is currently in a difficult position and faces a complicated international trade environment. He was probably also referring to Huawei’s problems.
Xiaomi invests in the development of smart devices
It also sees the future in intelligent manufacturing, which could reduce total production costs to just one tenth. To achieve this goal, the company invests significant amounts in research and development of new technologies.
It works closely with more than 70 companies that focus on research and development of smart devices and new advanced materials.
Since the beginning of this year, the company has already spent nearly 1,5 billion US dollars on these purposes, and in the coming years this trend is definitely going to continue. In the future, Xiaomi plans to push harder into foreign markets as well, including the European one.
