The Chinese tech giant’s subsidiary brand Xiaomi, the company Redmi, is preparing its new mid-range devices and will also be the first manufacturer in this price category to offer the new powerful chipset MediaTek.
Redmi and mid-range smartphones with a MediaTek processor
Just a few hours ago, the MediaTek brand officially unveiled its new and powerful chipset, the MediaTek Dimensity 1080 5G. It stands out especially for its 6 nm manufacturing process, as well as its ability to support cameras with resolutions up to 200 MPx.
And shortly after the launch, it already brought the first leaks, too—thanks to the well-known tipster nicknamed Digital Chat Station. He revealed that the new processor will most likely be built into the mid-range devices from the Redmi brand. Specifically, within the Redmi Note 12 series.
Dimensity 1080 5G will support up to a 200 MPx camera
This series of devices should be revealed in the very near future, and Dimensity 1080 5G will be only one of the upgrades that will take place compared to the previous generation. Redmi, however, won’t be the only manufacturer using this processor in its mid-range models. Realme or Honor are also interested in that model.
This new MediaTek processor is built on the model of Dimensity 920. That was a fairly powerful processor that we’ve been able to see in several devices from the Xiaomi ecosystem, such as Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G. It has eight cores configured as 2 x Cortex-A78 clocked at 2.6 GHz and 6 x Cortex-A55 clocked at 2 GHz.
In addition, the new processor supports Full HD+ displays with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, RAM memory types LPDDR4x or LPDDR5, fast internal UFS 2.1 and 3.2 storage, as well as fairly extensive wireless connectivity via 5G, Wi-Fi 6, or Bluetooth 5.2. Based on these attributes, we can already guess some of the features of the Redmi Note 12 series. It could also possibly include the mentioned 200 MPx sensor.
