Great news: Xiaomi is preparing a smartphone with a display refresh rate up to 120 Hz!

The popularity of mobile phones with higher refresh-rate displays is growing, and more and more new models are hitting the market. While until recently this parameter wasn’t something most users followed, it seems that very soon everything will be different.

The race for higher resolution is over—now the race for the highest refresh rate begins.

60 Hz won’t be enough anymore

The standard display refresh rate on today’s smartphones was, until recently, around 60 Hz. However, this parameter has started to increase in the last period. Just this year, 9 smartphones were introduced whose display refresh rate exceeds 60 Hz. For example, the well-known OnePlus 7 pro model reaches up to 90 Hz.

In June / July, we brought you a how-to article for overclocking this display refresh rate on the Xiaomi Mi 9—from the original 60 Hz to 84 Hz. This guide was shared by users of the popular website XDA Developers.

XDA Developers investigated the software code again

Používateľ smartfónu si bude môcť vybrať medzi 60 Hz a 120Hz.

The description with settings states that a higher frequency will make the image smoother and more fluid – while the selected lower frequency saves energy. This description is similar to a function found on other smartphones that are already running at higher display refresh rates.

Šikovný používateľ „kackskrz” z XDA dokonca funkcionalitu integroval do svojho mobilného telefónu. Jeho smartfón takéto frekvencie nepodporuje a preto je zobrazenie nefunkčné, približuje nám však ako by mohla funkcia v menu vyzerať.

No details yet

For now, however, it’s not clear what smartphone this will be, and we don’t know anything about it. We also don’t know its code name, nor the time frame when it could appear. Even whether it will be an LCD display or an AMOLED is not certain.

As we mentioned in the introduction, there aren’t many smartphones with high refresh-rate displays. The good news is that more and more new devices are coming, and Xiaomi doesn’t plan to fall behind in this segment. A user who has had the chance to use such a device no longer wants to go back to lower values.

At the moment, we don’t see much support for such a high refresh rate in many games or apps. It can be assumed that as more smartphones appear, software developers will have to deal with this parameter too.

As soon as we know more about Xiaomi’s 120 Hz display smartphone, we’ll send you an email. ?
