Blackmagic Camera is an alternative app that you can install on your Xiaomi, Redmi, or POCO smartphone. It has very detailed, truly professional settings for video recording.
Blackmagic Camera: Available app for Xiaomi smartphones too
First of all, we need to emphasize that this is an alternative app for your mobile camera. The app is available to download for free, and it will add to your current Camera app (the app won’t replace your existing Camera app). There are several alternative clients—we decided to try Blackmagic Camera mainly for its advanced settings.

We installed the app on our editorial Xiaomi smartphone using a .apk file that’s available in the app store, under the name APK Mirror. It’s an online service where you can get Android apps. To install them, however, you need to approve the permissions on your smartphone.
This app is also officially available on the Play Store. You can find a link to the latest version in the following link. However, during our testing attempt, we ran into an issue—the store greeted our device with a message saying that it wasn’t among the supported smartphones. We tried older flagship Xiaomi smartphones as well as the new POCO F6 and POCO X6 Pro, with the same result.
Detailed video recording settings
The app, which was made available for the iOS platform a few months ago, is now finally arriving for Android devices as well. We expect that official compatibility will expand in the coming weeks, so you’ll be able to enjoy all the full-featured functions tailored to your smartphone.
However, for those of you who don’t know it yet. The alternative client Blackmagic Camera is an app developed by a team called Blackmagic Design. It’s a well-known name in the film industry, especially thanks to high-quality custom cameras they bring to the market. The same group is behind the professional video editor called DaVinci Resolve—and it’s truly a strong product in the industry.
At its core, it’s one of the most advanced video recording apps on the market. It has manual touch controls of various types to adjust the view, a grid, sliders for adjusting white balance settings, and more. It supports recording in different resolutions from HD to 4K, and it supports video codecs H.264 and H.265, which you can change directly in the settings.
With the app, you also get access to the cloud service Blackmagic, which lets you quickly and easily share content with other users. It can also send files directly to your editor DaVinci Resolve.
The real downside right now, as we mentioned above, is limited compatibility only for certain Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy devices (for the official Play Store version). Over the next few weeks, the list of supported devices should expand, and we hope it will include Xiaomi devices too. Until then, you’ll have to make do with the unofficial store and a .apk file.
