The Chinese company POCO has truly ambitious plans for the future and doesn’t want to be boxed in as just a smartphone manufacturer. It also plans to produce other types of tech.
It won’t be just smartphones
In an interview for the Android Authority portal, Kevin Qiu, the CEO of POCO, said this. They want to create their own product ecosystem.
The first products that won’t be smartphones should be notebook-type devices, earbuds, or a tablet. All of these devices should be introduced gradually in year 2022.
Changes will also happen in the Android operating system overlay. POCO will use its own POCO Launcher, which will be slightly different from the MIUI interface from Xiaomi used so far.
Angus Kai Ho Ng, the head of marketing at POCO, noted that we’ll still have to wait for this company’s tablets. According to him, this segment is currently overcrowded and there’s no room for new manufacturers. That’s why you need to be patient and figure out the best timing for entering this device segment.
3 big updates for smartphones
POCO is changing its strategy when it comes to smartphone updates as well. Until now, it followed a scheme of 2 big Android system updates and 3 years of security patches.
From now on, the company wants to switch to a system of 3 big system update years and up to 4 years of security patches. This move would extend the lifetime of the devices, and it’s great news for end customers too.
We’re curious which smartphone will get such an update promise. It’s quite possible it will be the POCO M4 Pro 5G model, which should have its premiere as early as November 9.
