The first difference is the price. At the time of writing this article, Amazfit T-Rex Ultra is sold for roughly 337 €, while the newer T-Rex 3 costs about 280 €.

Design and materials

At first glance, both watches look similar, but upon closer inspection, you can see these differences:

• T-Rex 3 has an octagonal frame made of high-durability polymer and stainless steel, ensuring it stays lightweight (68.3 g without the strap).
• T-Rex Ultra uses stainless steel not only for the frame, but also for the back panel and buttons, giving it a more luxurious look, while weighing more (89 g).

If you prefer lighter watches, T-Rex 3 is the right pick, while Ultra will please those looking for a premium feel and higher durability.

Display: Brightness, size, and resolution

In terms of the display, T-Rex 3 leads the way:

• Display size: T-Rex 3 has a larger 1.5″ AMOLED display (480 x 480 px, 322 PPI) compared to 1.39″ (454 x 454 px, 326 PPI) on Ultra.
• Brightness: T-Rex 3 delivers an incredible brightness of up to 2000 nits—ideal for direct sunlight—while Ultra reaches only 1000 nits.
• Resolution: Even though the pixel difference isn’t dramatic, T-Rex 3 produces a slightly sharper image.

Sensors and tracking accuracy

Both models come with the same sensor set, including BioTracker™ PPG for monitoring heart rate and blood oxygen. However, T-Rex 3 uses the latest technology with 5 photodiodes and dual LED diodes, improving tracking accuracy to a level comparable to Garmin devices.

T-Rex 3 also supports NFC for contactless payments, which T-Rex Ultra doesn’t have. On the other hand, both watches offer features like offline maps and dual GPS, making them excellent for navigation.

Battery life and GPS modes

Battery is another key factor where T-Rex 3 excels:

• Basic mode: T-Rex 3 offers up to 27 days of battery life, while Ultra only gets 20 days.
• GPS mode: T-Rex 3 provides up to 42 hours in precise GPS mode, while Ultra handles 28 hours.

Even though Ultra has a shorter charging time (2 hours vs 3 hours), T-Rex 3 is a better choice for longer outdoor activities.

Amazfit T-Rex Ultra is the right choice for those who prefer premium materials and a rugged build. On the other hand, T-Rex 3 offers exceptional value for a lower price, while adding a better display, more accurate sensors, longer battery life, and more sports modes.
