Our real experience using these knives
We’ve owned these Xiaomi HuoHou Damascus knives for more than a year (written in April 2026) and use them every day in our household. We can say that so far we haven’t even needed to sharpen them once, because they still maintain excellent sharpness.
We also really appreciate the practical stand, which looks luxurious thanks to the transparent plexiglass and makes the knives look great on our kitchen countertop. So it’s not just about very sharp knives—it’s also a premium accessory for every kitchen.
Damascus knives offer premium quality
If you don’t know what Damascus knives are, we’ll introduce you to them in a nutshell. They’re high-quality knives made from Damascus steel, consisting of multiple layers of different types of steel.
Using different steel types results in an interesting structure with not only high hardness and durability, but also a beautiful decorative pattern. The pattern is completely unique on each knife, so you won’t find two knives with the same design. From each steel, the knives take only the best properties—so you really get luxury knives.
HuoHou Damascus knives
HuoHou Damascus knives are made from 67 layers of stainless steel. Their blade has a 16° angle, which ensures high sharpness and the highest quality. These knives will impress not only passionate home cooks, but also professionals. With HuoHou Damascus knives, cutting anything is a pleasure.
The knives are solid and hard, resistant to corrosion. The pattern we mentioned in the introduction is called the so-called Mohammed pattern and is a true piece of art. You’ll also love the high-quality handle made from dark laminated wood, which the manufacturer calls colorwood. It’s ergonomic, very sturdy, compact, and pleasant to the touch, while the polished surface is well resistant to moisture and wear.
Which steel exactly do HuoHou knives use?
This is a question we get from you most often, so we verified it directly in the official manufacturer specification on the Chinese Xiaomi Youpin. The blade core is made of 90Cr18MoV steel—a high-carbon stainless steel with about 0.9% carbon and 18% chromium, basically the Chinese equivalent of the well-known 440C knife steel. That’s why the edge stays sharp for so long and the blade also resists rust.
For this core, 33 layers of softer and tougher 10Cr17 steel are forged on each side. This protects the hard core from chipping while also creating that typical Damascus pattern. In total, you get 67 layers made by repeated folding and forging, followed by heat treatment and several grinding steps.
Blade core hardness is HRC 60 ±2 and you’ll find this stamped directly on the blade next to the HuoHou logo, along with the marking “Damascus Steel 67 Layers”. Standard supermarket kitchen knives are around HRC 52 to 56, so they’ll stay noticeably sharper for much longer. The blade has a 16-degree angle and is sharpened by hand, even though the industry standard is 20 degrees— the smaller the angle, the sharper the cut.
Set of four knives
HuoHou Damascus knives are sold as a set of four pieces, and in the Gshopper package you’ll also find a high-quality, stylish display stand. That means you get a large kitchen knife for meat and vegetables, a chef’s knife that’s great for slicing onions, a santoku knife for fish, and a smaller all-purpose knife.
What to watch out for when using
Damascus knives are extremely sharp, but not indestructible— the hard core is also more brittle. The manufacturer directly warns that they’re not meant for chopping, so don’t use them for bones, frozen meat, or hard bone pieces. For that, use tougher cleavers made of 50Cr15MoV steel.
Since the handle is made of wood, the knives shouldn’t go in the dishwasher and you shouldn’t scrub them with a wire brush or a harsh sponge. Just rinse them under running water, dry them thoroughly, and put them back into the stand, which should be placed in a ventilated spot. And if you do end up sharpening them after years, use a quality sharpening stone.
