Xiaomi plans to massively produce smartphones supporting mobile networks 5G in 2020. He said it directly, the CEO and founder of the company, Lei Jun. It should be more than 10 devices just in 2020, and with a price tag under 400 dollars, which is about 365 € / 9 330 CZK after conversion.

5G mid-range smartphones

It seems that in China, mobile 5G networks are rapidly expanding, and the increased user interest in 5G network-enabled devices supports that. Next year should be the year of a major 5G network push in the Chinese market.

Qualcomm and Mediatek are planning to launch 5G processors for mid-range mobile devices. That means this technology will also make its way into cheaper smartphones.

Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun revealed that all phones it will release next year with a price above 2 000 yuan (260 € / 6 645 CZK), will have 5G network support.

He also added that Xiaomi plans to launch at least 10 5G-enabled smartphones next year. The information was published this morning at the Global Mobile Partners China conference. All these devices should be released in the first half of 2020, so next year we can look forward to another solid batch of new smartphones from Xiaomi and Redmi brands.

As we already mentioned, in China, 5G mobile networks are on the rise and Xiaomi doesn’t want to lag behind in this segment. The company has already launched the 5G + AIoT strategy to increase the development and usage of its AIoT services (a combination of artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things).

The expansion of 5G networks also impacts the development of new devices

Lei Jun also urged the mobile operator China Mobile to speed up the rollout of its dual terminal service for eSIM. With this service, you can use multiple devices with a single phone number, such as a smartphone and a watch.

The service is currently available in only 7 cities in China – Tianjin, Canton, Shanghai, Nanjing, Chang-chou, Shenzhen, and Chengdu.

The new Mi Watch supports eSIM, but because the dual terminal eSIM service with one phone number is available only in a few cities, it also affects watch sales. Ultimately, it could also affect the development of smartwatches in general.

It will be interesting to follow the development of 5G networks here in Slovakia. So far, it seems that our operators aren’t rushing to roll out this technology.
