Mi Talk by Xiaomi: An alternative to the popular Clubhouse
Do you know the Clubhouse platform? It’s a really interesting social network, especially during the pandemic when coronavirus is spreading. The Clubhouse app offers spoken communication in rooms for up to 5000 users (moderators and participants). Content is distributed live and isn’t available from the archive.
These features are what make it exclusive, along with its exclusive availability on iOS devices and only for invited users. Now Xiaomi, the Chinese manufacturer, has also prepared a more accessible alternative in the form of the new Mi Talk app.
Unusual behavior in app development
Meanwhile, the Mi Talk service isn’t entirely new. Xiaomi has already discontinued this app, but just one week after the official end of the original discussion platform, the app is back in a completely new and different form.
On the day the original version officially ended, Lei Jun, the CEO of Xiaomi, started a conversation with his fans. This topic was read by 140 million users, and 130 million of them joined the discussions. During the discussion, it was mentioned that the Chinese manufacturer plans to launch a new interactive app in the year 2021.
Just a few days ago, that is 26. February 2021, the team behind the Xiaomi Mi Talk app released an interesting statement: „Mi Talk, start again“—and now the app is launched again, but in an updated form.
This service is now, in its new form, a voice chat app focused on professionals. Xiaomi has in fact created its own competitor for the well-known Clubhouse, which has seen a breakthrough and worldwide success especially in the last few weeks.
A new product in the early testing stage
The app represents a completely new product—there are no options available to transfer accounts and data from the old version of the app. Still, it’s a test operation that copies the way the Clubhouse app itself works. A small number of users will receive invitations for closed testing. Everyone else will be able to register and wait for an invitation / addition to the service.
The app supports both operating systems, Android and iOS. In the Chinese app store, Xiaomi’s new service appeared on the day the original Mi Talk version was officially discontinued. However, it’s still in the initial development stage, and besides invitations, it’s available to employees.
