Source: gizmochina.com - So far, Xiaomi has launched Mijia Smart Italian Semi-Automatic Coffee Maker Pro in China only for 4,999 yuan (EUR 645).
- Unlike cheaper capsule models, it works with whole beans — it grinds, dispenses, extracts, and also froths milk.
- The grinder dispenses with precision down to the tenth of a gram, and uses a plasma system to prevent static.
- Two pumps and two heating blocks make it possible to extract coffee and froth milk at the same time.
- The device is currently for the Chinese market only; Xiaomi says nothing about other countries.
So far, Xiaomi’s coffee makers have played it safe — cheap capsule machines and a portable mini coffee maker that brews espresso in 45 seconds. This new model is different, literally and figuratively: Mijia Smart Italian Semi-Automatic Coffee Maker Pro costs about the same as a decent flagship smartphone.
Xiaomi leaves the capsules at the door
This model completely skips capsules and works with whole beans. In one unit, it handles the entire chain — grinding, dosing, extraction, and milk frothing. It’s made for Xiaomi by the Ningbo Kunling Technology company; the price is 4,999 yuan, i.e. about EUR 645. The less positive part is that the product is currently available only on the Chinese market, and availability in Europe hasn’t been confirmed yet.
The built-in grinder dispenses coffee with an accuracy of 0.1 gram, so you don’t have to weigh it on a kitchen scale. Xiaomi also added a plasma system against static electricity — otherwise the ground coffee tends to clump together and stick around the hopper.
Two pumps mean you don’t have to wait
The most interesting technical feature is the doubling. The coffee maker has two separate water pumps and two heating blocks, so it can extract coffee and steam milk simultaneously — you don’t need to finish one process first and only then start the other. Separate paths are also used for hot and cold water, so hot espresso and cold extraction don’t spoil each other’s temperature.
Temperature control is handled by five NTC sensors placed across the brewing circuit, including the brew head; their data is processed by PID control. Pressure is provided by a Italian ULKA pump — the same one the brand uses in its portable model — with pressure of up to 19 bar. According to Xiaomi, it can make more than ten cups in a row without any noticeable drop in performance.
Milk is selected automatically — including plant-based
Milk frothing is automatic, and the machine adapts to what you put into it: cow’s milk and various types of plant-based alternatives can be used, and the coffee maker adjusts the process so the foam has the right texture. If you like to tinker, you get nine adjustable parameters, including grind coarseness and milk temperature.
In the Xiaomi Home app, you’ll find hundreds of pre-set recipes, so you don’t have to dig through settings. And for complete beginners, there’s a first-cup guide that takes you step by step through grinding, tamping, extraction, milk frothing, and cleaning.
It’s not coming to us for now
Now for the inconvenient part. The coffee maker is sold exclusively in China, and Xiaomi hasn’t said anything about other markets yet. With big kitchen appliances, that’s not surprising — only exceptionally they reach European warehouses, and there would be no service here.
Even if it did reach us one day, you need to assume that we’re talking about around EUR 645 in converted terms, and for a Xiaomi kitchen appliance that’s a completely new category. What’s more interesting is what that suggests about the brand’s direction — Xiaomi is clearly no longer just the cheap option in home appliances.
