LCD board for writing or drawing is quite an unusual addition to a home. Xiaomi has now introduced a 39-inch novelty that succeeds the 2019 model. It offers digital ink and impresses with its price.
Mijia LCD Blackboard 39″ brings a few innovations
This product isn’t a toy, but a serious home accessory—also for professional use. You don’t physically draw on the board, but as we already mentioned in the introduction, it uses so-called “digital ink” created by reflecting light. It’s a very interesting yet fairly simple technology, and we’ll get to it right away.
The board boasts a great screen-to-front ratio of up to 98 %. As a result, the bezels are just 6 mm. So it’s nicer not only to look at, but also a bit more practical to use. You can even stack multiple boards next to each other.
By connecting three such boards, you can get a 78-inch display that works without any cable links, physical connectors, or magnets.
The display technology relies on a specially designed LCD layer with no backlight at all. The screen depends purely on reflected light. Writing activates a pressure-sensitive layer that communicates with the screen and then displays the written text or a drawn image.
The user experience is said to be very smooth and authentic. The advantage is that no dirt or smudges are left on the board compared to traditional boards that use markers or chalk. Only a special pen is used. The content on the board can be erased with one click.
Long battery life and surprisingly low price
Xiaomi Mijia LCD Blackboard 39″ relies on power from two batteries. Assuming you write/draw on the board and then erase the content 100 times per day, those batteries can keep the device running for up to 280 days. That’s impressive, don’t you think? And will you try to guess the price this new product will be sold for?
The Mijia brand will distribute it through a crowdfunding campaign for 239 yuan, which is about €30. If the project gets enough investors’ support, official sales will start at a price of 299 yuan, i.e. roughly €39. We wouldn’t expect the product to arrive on the European market, though. Still, it’s a pretty remarkable new release that you don’t see that often.
