MIUI 13 Pad brings huge changes and new features for Xiaomi tablets

Just a few days ago, among other things, the MIUI 13 software skin was officially unveiled, which we all eagerly expected. Xiaomi revealed a bunch of new features and confirmed that this skin will also land on other devices, such as smartwatches or tablets. And it’s exactly those that are bringing big changes.

A new MIUI ecosystem

Xiaomi wants its custom skin to create its own ecosystem so that all devices are connected and can communicate with each other. That’s possible with this skin, and we definitely have something to look forward to.

An interesting new feature is the connection between a tablet and a smartphone. Here, Xiaomi took inspiration from American Apple. Apps can be opened on any device and automatically continue where you left off on the second device.

Copying also works between both devices. These handy extras will definitely come in useful, and such an ecosystem is starting to make sense.

Multitasking has also been improved. In MIUI for Pad it was already brilliantly handled, but Xiaomi is now going even further. From now on, during multitasking you can watch video in a floating window or bring up the keyboard.

Xiaomi also stated that it will remove unnecessary elements and improve environment optimization. These changes will mean the system puts less strain on the battery itself.

Integration of an external keyboard and touch pen has also improved. There’s a whole range of keyboard shortcuts available. For the touch pen, additional element selection buttons have been added too.

Tablet-format apps and availability already in January

Xiaomi pushed for better support for third-party apps so they can make the most of the big tablet screen. It even said that as many as 3 000 of the apps were adapted to the tablet format.

The update will roll out to the latest tablets Xiaomi Pad 5 and Pad 5 Pro already in January 2022, but for now only for China. At the moment, no date has been set for when we can expect this update also in Europe.
