As announced, the Redmi brand under Xiaomi’s umbrella today unveiled new products in China. First, Redmi Note 7 Pro, which we already know, later Redmi 7, which we expected. Just like Redmi Note 7 did at its January launch, Redmi 7 is drawing huge attention.
The 7th generation of Redmi smartphones has turned out incredibly well. The new model offers an uncompromising price-to-performance ratio.
Improved durability, new colors
When designing the new generation of an affordable smartphone, the manufacturer focused not only on the lowest possible price. Just like the Redmi Note 7, the Redmi 7 is designed with increased durability in mind. The construction has a P2i certification, which means resistance to splashing water.
The dimensions of the new Redmi smartphone are 158.73 x 75.58 x 8.47 mm and the weight is 180 grams. The back features new gradient color finishes, already hinting at the new seventh generation of Redmi smartphones.
People in China also got an extended 18-month warranty, showing once again Xiaomi’s high manufacturing quality. 6,26″ display with HD+ resolution (1520 x 720 px) is protected by Gorilla Glass 5. It offers a 19:9 aspect ratio, a teardrop-style notch, and covers up to 84% of the front.
The display even received a TÜV Rheinland certification, meaning it provides the highest level of biological safety. It doesn’t damage your eyes, emits no UV radiation, effectively suppresses harmful blue light, and protects your eyes from fatigue. Impressive that even such an affordable smartphone looks after the user’s health.
Snapdragon 632, 4000 mAh battery
Progress has also been made in performance. Unlike last year’s Redmi 6, its successor goes back to its roots and comes with a Qualcomm chipset. The specs include an 8-core Snapdragon 632 with a clock speed of 1.8 GHz. The processor is built on a 14 nm process and features a new generation of Qualcomm’s Kryo 250 cores. The Adreno 506 graphics chip can handle less demanding games.
In terms of memory, there will be three versions available – 2 GB RAM + 16 GB storage, 3 GB RAM + 32 GB and 4 GB RAM + 64 GB internal memory. A great piece of news for many users is the ability to expand memory via microSD cards up to 512 GB.
With this configuration, the Redmi 7 offers enough power for all your everyday tasks. There’s no doubt about the system’s smoothness, so the smartphone will also suit more demanding users. Another major draw is the 4000 mAh battery, which combined with an efficient processor and an HD display delivers up to 400 hours (16 days) of battery life in standby mode.
Camera from the flagship
Xiaomi is improving camera quality even in its budget smartphones. Proof of that isn’t just the Redmi Note 7 with a 48 MPx camera, but also the newly unveiled Redmi 7. It got the main dual-camera sensor from the former Xiaomi Mi 6 flagship.
A 12 MPx sensor with a large 1/2.9″ aperture f/2.2, pixel size of 1.25μm, PDAF autofocus, and a lot of artificial intelligence. It’s supported by a 2 MPx sensor for capturing depth of field. Camera features also include portrait mode, HDR, and face recognition.
A pleasant surprise is recording FullHD video at 60 fps. The front selfie camera has a resolution of 8 MPx, and it also uses artificial intelligence for even sharper selfies.
3,5 mm jack and a better speaker
The Redmi 7’s lineup is rounded out by a 3.5 mm audio jack, an IR Blaster for controlling household appliances, a fingerprint sensor on the back, or a better Smart PA speaker with a new equalizer that delivers 40% louder sound compared to the predecessor. There’s also face unlocking via the front camera.
