A major leak about Redmi 9 even before the launch: We know the price and the complete specs

Redmi, as a subsidiary brand of the Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi, is preparing its new budget-friendly smartphone under the label Redmi 9.

Thanks to the latest information leak, we also know the prices, retail package, performance variants, and even the color versions of the upcoming smartphone.

Redmi 9: During June 2020

A budget-friendly smartphone will land in the ninth generation of models led by the classic Redmi line, where the cheapest models belong. It will join models already announced such as Redmi Note 9, Redmi Note 9 Pro, and also Redmi Note 9S.

According to available information, the launch of the budget smartphone is really just around the corner. Although the previous leaks initially pointed to June 25, 2020, with new leaks it could also be an earlier date. We already know that Xiaomi will present, for example, the Mi Band 5 fitness band on June 11, 2020.

We know the complete hardware lineup

For a known Philippine retailer, Lazada, official renders have appeared, along with the complete specs of the new device. The latest cheap Redmi 9 will be equipped with a 6.53″ IPS display with a teardrop notch.

The display will get the standard FullHD+ resolution, meaning 2340 x 1080 pixels, with an aspect ratio of 19,5:9. This year, Redmi is ramping up cooperation with chipset manufacturer MediaTek, and Redmi 9 is expected to receive a newer MediaTek Helio G80 processor.

It’s an eight-core chipset with four Cortex-A75 @ 2 GHz cores and another four Cortex-A55 @ 1.8 GHz cores. It’s intended specifically for more affordable smartphones. The processor is paired with a Mali-G52 MC2 graphics chip, and the setup will also include LPDDR4x RAM and eMMC 5.1 internal storage.

Following the bigger Redmi Note models, even the cheapest model should come with a large 5 020 mAh battery with 18 W fast charging via a USB Type-C connector.

As for the camera setup, we expect four rear cameras in the following arrangement: 13 MP primary lens with an f/2.2 aperture, 8 MP wide-angle lens with a 118-step field-of-view angle, 5 MP macro lens with an f/2.4 aperture, and a 2 MP depth-of-field sensor with an f/2.4 aperture. The front camera will get a 8 MP resolution.

Among the other features of the Redmi 9 model are the Android 10 OS with MIUI 11, a DualSIM slot and a microSD card slot, Bluetooth 5.0, an IR Blaster for controlling home appliances, face unlocking, microphones with noise cancellation, and a 3,5 mm audio jack.

The smartphone’s dimensions will be 163,32 x 77,01 x 91 mm, and the weight of the surprisingly 198 grams.

Prices and versions of the upcoming smartphone

The source that brought the information leaks also mentions multiple device versions. The model with a 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage configuration should start at around €130 / 149 USD. The simpler 3 GB RAM + 32 GB storage configuration then starts from €122 / 139 USD.

We should get three color versions (at launch). They should be the colors labeled Grey, Sunset Purple and Green. The smartphone will include a fingerprint reader on the back, placed under the camera.
