The new flagship smartphone Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 with its under-display front camera definitely won’t be an easy one to repair. The repair price list, for example, puts a screen replacement at up to the price of a solid mid-range smartphone.
Display repair on the Xiaomi Mi MIX 4
Even though using a flagship phone with a “invisible” front camera sounds really interesting, it can also be pretty expensive—especially when it comes to a display repair.
Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 is a new model that revived the MIX line of devices after three years, and it’s also the company’s first smartphone to use under-display front camera technology. For comparison, the device’s launch price in China is 4999 Chinese yuan (657 € / 770 USD).
Today, Xiaomi’s official website also announced the repair price list for the model Xiaomi Mi MIX 4. This list reveals that the cost of replacing a specific smartphone screen reaches up to 1550 Chinese yuan (203 € / 239 USD).
For that amount, you can currently buy a truly full-value mid-range smartphone, for example from Redmi’s or POCO’s sub-brand.

Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 offers a screen resolution of 1080p, but when it comes to replacement, the price is comparable to the Xiaomi Mi 11 series devices. Its 2K AMOLED display is, however, another 120 Chinese yuan more expensive (by 15 € / 18 USD).
Replacing the ceramic back cover is expensive too. If we look at the Shadow Cleaner version, the cost to repair the ceramic back cover stops at up to 680 Chinese yuan (89 € / 104 USD). That back cover is therefore almost 5-times more expensive than a replacement on a Xiaomi Mi 11 smartphone.
That’s why the service intervention price list is higher
There is, however, a reason why a display replacement is such an expensive service. The display comes with a specific technology for integrating the front camera and reflects three years of work by Xiaomi’s development team. The process of assembling the display is also very important.
Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi, said: “The proactive area under the screen is very costly, and the entire panel is equivalent to a combination of two displays.”
As for the ceramic materials, they’ve always been significantly more expensive than regular tempered glass. This time, Xiaomi has introduced a specific type of ceramic materials that keeps a warm and damp feel when holding the device, and also reduces the part’s weight by up to 30%.
