Our favorite Chinese tech giant Xiaomi is already working on a new generation of its flagship smartphone Xiaomi 15 Pro. It should impress with a revolutionary display and, in the lineup, it will also offer a periscope telephoto lens.
Xiaomi 15 Pro: A new flagship model that will surprise with a revolutionary display
Information about the upcoming flagship smartphone Xiaomi 15 Pro was shared by a well-known tipster under the nickname Digital Chat Station. They claim that, based on an early prototype of the device, this phone will be equipped with a 2K screen with slight curvature. The size of this display is not known yet, but it’s mentioned that it won’t differ too much from its predecessor, i.e. Xiaomi 14 Pro.
The back should be home to a powerful camera module. On the left, there will be a square module, but its design is not finalized yet. It should include no fewer than three sensors, including a 50 MP main camera, and surprisingly also a 50 MP periscope lens. This sensor should also offer a macro shooting function. The main camera is rumored to feature a larger aperture compared to the current Pro smartphone.
Other interesting features include, for example, improved in-display ultrasonic fingerprint unlocking, as well as display panel options that will even apply to the base model of Xiaomi 15. In this case, however, a flat display is expected—without curvature—and with a smaller screen size, similar to what was the case with the last two generations.
The first smartphone with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor
Xiaomi has a weakness for unveiling devices that come with premium components, including processors. So it’s no surprise that the Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro series would also want to continue the established trend. Qualcomm, the maker of flagship chips, is preparing its Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, which should be announced in early October 2024.
That also matches the timeline for the launch of new Xiaomi devices, following the pattern of the fourteenth generation. Building on the Qualcomm chipset, we should see new Chinese versions of Xiaomi smartphones that will offer this processor among the first. In the global version, these devices will most likely appear only in the first quarter of 2025.
As for the processor itself, Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, it should deliver a noticeable performance boost over its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The successor should bring Qualcomm’s own CPU cores, in a configuration of two big high-performance cores and six mid-size cores, with a clock speed from 3.6 GHz up to 4.0 GHz. They will be covered by the latest 3 nm manufacturing process from TSMC.
Performance tests in AnTuTu
Another tipster, Yogesh Brar, shared on the social network X more leaks of information about Xiaomi 15 Pro. These align with the information mentioned above and confirm the use of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor. We also have the results from GeekBench 6 tests, which talk about a score of over 2700 points for Single-Core and over 10 000 points for Multi-Core testing.
Recently, alleged performance test results also appeared in the well-known AnTuTu app in10. The record says it achieved 1 769 083 points, which is paradoxically a bit lower than the score of the current Snapdragon processor generation. The lower score is caused mainly by throttling the CPU itself, given that the chipset was tested as a so-called engineering sample.
Among the other specifications, the tipster shared above all a flat 6.36″ AMOLED display for the base model Xiaomi 15, as well as an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. The aforementioned main camera with a resolution of 50 MPx is also confirmed.
