Just a moment ago, we published an article about Xiaomi taking a surprising step this year: skipping the model name Xiaomi 16 and launching Xiaomi 17 right away. Now, Xiaomi’s official account on the Chinese social network Weibo has taken care of an unexpected leak of the design for the upcoming Xiaomi 17 Pro series – it’s quite possible this is the Max model.

All it took was a small oversight when changing the profile photo, and fans immediately spotted an image of a smartphone that hasn’t been introduced yet. It revealed a new camera module that also includes a secondary display on the back.
Leak from the company’s official Weibo account
Just recently, Qualcomm confirmed the name of its latest flagship chipset — Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. The first manufacturer to use it is said to be Xiaomi and its new Xiaomi 17 series. The updated profile image unintentionally offered a glimpse of the back of the device—most likely the Pro versions.
According to the shot, the secondary display is directly integrated into the camera island. Two sensors are visible inside this module, while the third lens sits underneath it next to the LED flash. So it’s an interesting refinement building on the older Mi 11 Ultra, but this time it looks like Xiaomi is focusing on even greater everyday practicality.
Unlike the Mi 11 Ultra, the secondary panel in Xiaomi 17 Pro (Max) should be larger and offer expanded use cases. According to early info, it could even handle launching apps in full-screen mode—similar to what works on the external display of the foldable Galaxy Z Flip 7.
However, it’s also possible that this feature will be limited to the top-end Pro Max model, while the base Pro and the classic Xiaomi 17 will remain without a rear display.

Whether it’s all models or only selected ones, one thing is certain: Xiaomi is preparing for a big leap forward. More official information about the Xiaomi 17 series with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 should be unveiled soon, and fans definitely have something to look forward to.
