Our favorite Chinese company Xiaomi has officially unveiled its first router with a SIM card slot. With Xiaomi 5G CPE Pro, you no longer need a cable.
Xiaomi 5G CPE Pro: The first SIM-card router
The new Xiaomi 5G CPE Pro really sports a stylish design, with rounded corners and a minimalist matte white finish. The base of this router has a diameter of just 118 mm, and the overall dimensions are about 118mm × 118mm × 218mm. So you won’t have to overthink its placement indoors.
The main advantage of this model, however, is the integrated SIM card slot. With this connectivity type, you can use 5G connection (SA / NSA), as well as more affordable 4G / LTE (TDD / FDD). Internal omnidirectional antennas with 360° coverage will take care of reliable connectivity.
The basic 2.4 GHz (2×2) connection supports the protocol up to IEEE 802.11ax, with a theoretical maximum speed of 574 Mbps. As for the 5 GHz (4×4) connection, it also supports the protocol up to IEEE 802.11ax, with a theoretical maximum speed of 4804 Mbps.
The router also supports fast pairing using your smartphone and NFC technology. It can also enable exclusive gaming acceleration on connected Xiaomi or Redmi devices, which will get dedicated tunnels to enhance your gaming experience.
And among the supported protocols, you can also find IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax, as well as IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab. Supported encryption includes WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK, and also WPA3-SAE. For configuring the router, you can use the MyWiFiROM operating system, which can be controlled via the web, as well as via an Android and iOS mobile app.
Price and availability of the router, package contents
In the retail box, you’ll find not only the router itself, but also accessories. Specifically, there’s a power cable with a local plug for the mains, as well as a network cable to connect your devices. There’s also a warranty card and a brief user manual, including the first device setup.
As for the retail price or availability in stores in Slovakia, we don’t have this information yet. However, the router has appeared on the Czech Heureka portal, as well as in the offering of the Czech operator T-Mobile. So launching it on the Slovak market may be just around the corner.
