The Chinese tech giant Xiaomi has released a video of its intelligent humanoid robot named Xiaomi CyberOne, playing percussion instruments. This is what it actually looks like.
Xiaomi CyberOne: Humanoid vs drum instruments
The humanoid robot CyberOne from Xiaomi was first unveiled back in August 2022. In the very first footage, we could already see what this robot is capable of—something that in the future could handle certain tasks that are difficult to access or physically demanding.
However, it was just a sort of preview of this robot’s possible functions. Now the Chinese company brings us more video footage showing how the robot handles playing musical instruments. Specifically, it plays drum instruments, almost like a professional.
This is how the activity demo looks in the video:
Robot CyberOne appeared at a press conference alongside a foldable smartphone Mix Fold 2 and smartwatches. Thanks to its fairly unconventional design, this product is able to move on its own, carry certain items, recognize human emotions, and even play drum instruments.
In the video above, which was posted on the Chinese social network Weibo, you can see that the Xiaomi robot can hold drumsticks like a pro, and the instrument handling is truly very good. Of course, it’s not the speed that a professional musician would show you. Still, for a humanoid robot with AI elements, it’s genuinely impressive.
Maximum speed up to 3,6 km/h and a flexible OLED panel
But let’s look at the details. The robot CyberOne can walk and pick up items at a speed of 3.6 km/h. During the presentation, the CyberOne robot appeared on stage and even brought and handed a flower to the company’s CEO. Integrated electric motors will be used to power its legs, with a maximum torque of 300 Nm.
The Chinese tech giant claims that its humanoid robot can recognize 45 different emotions based on a person’s speech tone. Its robotic “face” is made of a flexible OLED panel, and integrated cameras and microphones are also included for spatial orientation and sound recognition. CyberOne offers a construction with the ability to tilt up to 21°, thanks to thirteen movable hinges.
Even though the robot’s music video, Xiaomi CyberOne, is truly fun and impressive, the device is currently still in an early stage of development. The date of its commercial release has not been announced yet. However, the estimated selling price is already known: 600 – 700 thousand Chinese yuan, i.e. roughly about 89 – 100 thousand €.
