Chinese tech giant Xiaomi introduces new DSDA technology. It’s a Dual SIM Dual Active, with this new feature unveiled at the well-known MWC 2023 trade show in Spanish Barcelona.
What is the Dual SIM Dual Active technology?
Although smartphones with dual active SIM cards have existed for some time, many manufacturers have chosen not to include this technology in their devices. The main factor, of course, is the price—meaning the costs of implementing it. And Dual SIM Dual Active (DSDA) is nothing more than support for two active SIM cards at the same time, but in Xiaomi’s implementation.
The standard support Dual SIM – Dual StandBy lets you use two cards, but when one card is actively used, the other one stays inactive. This new solution lets you receive calls and messages in real time even on that second card.
If you keep both SIM cards in your Dual SIM smartphone constantly active, you don’t have to deal with complicated switching of active cards. You also don’t need to choose a primary or secondary card, because all your data is always available—and right away.
Necessary hardware components in future Xiaomi smartphones
From the MIUI Polska source, we’re getting more information about this technology. Dual SIM Dual Active from Xiaomi isn’t just a software solution—it also requires additional hardware elements. So, no app or software OTA update will add this feature to your smartphone.
We don’t yet know when we’ll see the first Xiaomi smartphone with integrated DSDA technology. However, we at the editorial office hope that this useful hardware upgrade—appreciated by many users—will be included in upcoming flagship devices. Below, you can watch a short demo of this technology in a video from a Chinese manufacturer.
