Imilab EC2: The global version brings improvements
The manufacturer decided to bring the camera to the global market and presents its global version called Xiaomi Imilab EC2.
Basically, it’s the exact same camera with a slight improvement in water resistance – it has IP66 certification vs IP65 in the Chinese version.
However, the global version works in the European region of the Mi Home app, so you won’t need to set the Mainland China region. Now, you can even connect multiple cameras at once to one gateway—up to 4 cameras maximum.
With the camera, you also get free lifetime cloud storage and there are no monthly fees required.
The Xiaomi Imilab EC2 camera was launched through a crowdfunding campaign on the well-known Indiegogo platform. It also gained popularity there when the manufacturer managed to raise up to 545 % of the target goal.
Detailed video review:
Full HD video and no cables
The Xiaomi Imilab EC2 can capture footage in 1080p, which will definitely be sharp enough so nothing gets missed.
The camera has a f/2.6 aperture, 8 built-in infrared lights for night vision and a 120° viewing angle.
The main attraction is also its built-in battery with a 5100 mAh capacity. Thanks to it, it’s completely wireless—you just need to mount it in the desired location without any wiring.
With a single charge, it lasts up to 100 days of operation.
The package also includes a gateway for signal stabilization
The great price hasn’t been affected by another included accessory, which is in the basic package – the gateway. It’s a special little box for extending and stabilizing the signal during wireless transmission. It also effectively reduces the camera’s power consumption.
You can also insert a microSD card into the box, and the video will be stored locally on the device.
It’s resistant to outdoor conditions
IP66 certification means full dust resistance and protection also against rain or smaller splashes of water.
These features had to be a given, since the Mijia camera is intended for outdoor use.
Imilab EC2 has smart features
Using a mobile app, you can view the image in real time and check what’s happening. You can also look at camera status information and more.
