Tech YouTuber TechZG, who currently has more than 108 thousand subscribers, brought a unique comparison of Night Mode—specifically between smartphones Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. The comparison includes both photo shots and videos.
Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra
The comparison video from the very beginning contrasts video recording in dark, evening conditions. While Xiaomi’s software tries to brighten the captured scene in every situation, Samsung leaves several parts darker in the standard mode by default and doesn’t artificially brighten them too much. A similar situation happens with photos in standard mode as well.
The Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro brightens the final image significantly in multiple scenes, even at the cost of higher noise.
Moreover, for night photography Xiaomi automatically turns on its Night Mode depending on the scene being shot. Samsung’s software captures in normal mode automatically, but Night Mode needs to be enabled manually.
In normal mode, the photos differ—Xiaomi brightens the scene, while Samsung has several darker areas. The situation is evened out by using Night Mode on both devices.
However, a strong excess of light also isn’t ideal. Displaying text in the video, but also a still photo, can cause a slight loss of detail on Xiaomi. In certain cases, you might even prefer Samsung’s darker scene with more pronounced depth of field—especially in “selfie” shots, where this smartphone really shines.
Whether it’s automatic or manual, Night Mode will show more light and more details in the photos for both smartphones. With Samsung, the difference is genuinely significant, and we definitely recommend using Night Mode. On the other hand, the result of Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro differs only slightly in normal vs. night mode.
Overall, both smartphones still produce really great night photos and videos, and their quality is often comparable. And that even with such a drastic price difference – 999 EUR for the Mi 10 Pro and 1300 EUR for the Galaxy S20 Ultra.
