The introduction of a new flagship from the Chinese tech giant is fast approaching. However, the Xiaomi Mi 9 won’t be the only smartphone the manufacturer will present. Just like last year, we can look forward to a special Explorer Edition version with a transparent back cover.
The most powerful smartphone in the world
The arrival of the Xiaomi Mi 9 Explorer Edition was hinted at yesterday by a leaked teaser that shows only part of the smartphone. While the standard version will have three lenses for the camera, the Explorer Edition will have up to 4. We shared the photo on our Facebook.
Today, more information about the Mi 9 transparent edition has surfaced. Directly one of the Xiaomi co-founders, Wang Chuan, confirmed in a post on the social network Weibo that the Mi 9 Explorer Edition will be “the most powerful smartphone in the world”.

The founder of Xiaomi posted the first official photos of the Mi 9
It also says the smartphone has been in use for some time already and that its performance surpasses all other smartphones. It also confirmed a quad-camera setup on the back. We should also get a redesigned back, which the predecessor was heavily criticized for. Could we be getting a glimpse of the smartphone’s real internals?
Snapdragon 855 in Mi 9 officially confirmed
But that’s not all from today’s information. Another official statement came from the company’s main founder, Lei Jun. He confirmed that the Mi 9 will run on the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor.
Xiaomi has long been working with Qualcomm, and they’re even involved in developing these top-tier chipsets. The Mi 9 will therefore likely be the first Chinese smartphone to feature Qualcomm’s newest processor.
Snapadragon 855 is a chipset manufactured using a 7 nm production process. It contains 8 cores split across three clusters. One primary core runs at 2.84 GHz, the next three cores run at 2.42 GHz, and the last quad is clocked at 1.8 GHz.
Along with the processor, there’s also a more powerful Adreno 640 graphics chip. The overall performance of Snpadragon 855 compared to 845 has increased by up to 45%. The first benchmarks show that Qualcomm will continue to lead the performance charts this year too.
