Xiaomi is ending official software support for these Mi Band bracelets and smartwatches

7. May 2022 2 min read 0 comments

Almost a month ago, Xiaomi revealed mobile devices that will no longer receive any official support. Now it has done the same with its smart devices.

At the same time, the company is already working on the MIUI 13.5 update layer and also on a lighter MIUI 13 Lite. Obviously, that’s enough work for the development team to have to focus on it and not deal with outdated smart devices anymore.

Some Xiaomi smart devices have already been written off

Recently, we got a pair of watches—Xiaomi Watch S1 and S1 Active—and all the information suggests that the upcoming smart bracelet Xiaomi Mi Band 7 is already in serial production.

The influx of new devices means a drain of the older ones. Xiaomi, via the official website, has published a list of devices that will no longer get any new updates from the manufacturer.

Xiaomi Mi Band 4

Of course, the list isn’t as extensive as the one for smartphones, but you’ll find some legendary wearable devices from this company—ones that have sold millions of units worldwide.

Wearable devices that are ending official support:

  • Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 1
  • Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 2
  • Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 3
  • Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 3i
  • Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 4
  • Xiaomi Mi Watch
  • Xiaomi Mi Watch Color Keith Haring Edition

What surprised us most was the Xiaomi Mi Watch model. These were great, popular watches that hit the market sometime in early 2021. It’s definitely a shame, because they offered an excellent price-to-performance ratio.

That said, we’re wondering why the list doesn’t include the smart watch Xiaomi Mi Watch Lite as well. It’s basically an entry-level smartwatch with a square design, priced at around €40. Does that mean Xiaomi still has plans for these watches? Because in practice, they run the same software as the Xiaomi Mi Watch.

Do you own any of the models that will lose support? Is that a reason for you to switch to a new device, or is it not something you care about? Let us know in the comments below the article.
