Xiaomi is working on a new version of the MIUI 13 Lite interface, which should improve performance even on the cheapest smartphones

MIUI 13 is a great-looking interface with lots of customization and handy features, but it’s also demanding on performance. Xiaomi is aware of that and is preparing its lightweight version.

MIUI 13 Lite?

The MIUI 13 Lite interface is supposed to be for budget smartphones with not exactly the most powerful processors, but they should still get most of the features from the full version MIUI 13.

The well-known informant and developer Kacper Skrzypek found in internal MIUI code that two new MIUI versions with the names MIUI Lite Version and MIUI Go Version started to appear there. This suggests they are Lite versions of MIUI. Reducing the load on the processor would come from removing some animations, but also some system elements and apps.

These types of devices will include the cheapest models with lower processor performance and a small amount of RAM. It’s something similar to what Google has with Android Go, which is also stripped of some animations and features—yet on budget devices it runs smoothly and without stuttering.

What would we lose all of it for?

We’re curious whether this system would also reach current devices that won’t get MIUI 13, or if Xiaomi is saving it only for newly announced devices that will already ship with this lightweight interface.

Another question also comes up: what is Xiaomi willing to sacrifice for a better user experience? MIUI is after all a massive interface that completely redesigned clean Android from the ground up.

On some smartphones, it’s noticeable that this interface is more harmful than useful. The biggest problem can be the lower RAM capacity, which negatively affects the smoothness of the environment—so the processor’s performance is also reduced.
