However, this claim has now been denied by new reports.
New reports
Recently, it was leaked that the new Mi MIX Alpha would include, in an updated version, Snapdragon 865. However, this information was denied by Xiao Zang, who is a representative for the general manager for marketing. It happened on the social network Weibo.
From the start of this year, the Mi MIX Alpha was supposed to be ready for mass production. However, it seems that availability is being postponed again, indefinitely.
Photos from inside
Besides the unfortunate news about the processor, photos of a disassembled Mi Mix Alpha model appeared online. Even from the photos, it’s clear that this smartphone is technically extremely complex, and the manufacturer really had to deal with fitting all the components.
Photos from inside the device were posted on the Chinese platform Xianyu. In the pictures, you can see the device’s mainboard, the placement of the cards, and also the screen.
Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha – the visual king
Mi Mix Alpha stands out as the only one of its kind. Visually, it has no competition in the smartphone world. The device uses a curved 7.92“ OLED display that covers up to 180.6 % of the smartphone’s body. The surface is plastic, creating a 4D edge-to-edge display.
Mi Mix Alpha doesn’t use a microphone at all, but a special ultrasonic technology built into this unique display.
The camera is the highlight
The revolutionary Mi Mix Alpha features a triple camera system mounted on the back of the device. The main sensor includes a 108 MPx lens from Samsung. The sensor size is 1/1.33″ with an f/1.69 aperture. The image can reach up to 12032 × 9024 pixels and the file size can be up to 40 MB.
The secondary sensor includes a 12 MPx lens. This is a telephoto lens with a sensor size of 1/2.55″ and an f/2.0 aperture. It’s also from Samsung.
The last sensor includes a 20 MPx lens. This is an ultra-wide + macro lens from Sony.
Mi Mix Alpha does not include a selfie camera. You don’t need one either. Just rotate the smartphone and you’ll see what you’re shooting on the back of the display. Your selfie photos will be better than ever before.
The best hardware from last year
The updated version of Mi Mix Alpha comes with a Snapdragon 855 Plus processor. You’ll also find up to 12 GB RAM and 512 GB of storage, providing enough space for unique photos, videos, and more.
The whole device is powered by a 4050 mAh battery. There’s also support for 40 W fast charging.
In the end, the Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha is a truly unique device and the only one of its kind. The question is whether it will sell just as well when mass production and sales finally start—and when that will realistically happen.
The biggest downside to buying it could be its high price, set at 19,999 yuan, which is about 2500 € / 2815 USD.
