In the box
For about €35, you get a device the size of a power bank with which you can inflate almost anything without physical effort. In the box, besides the compressor itself, you’ll find a charging cable, a 180 mm hose with an adapter for car tires, an adapter for the “Presta” valve or a Schrader (road bike) valve, a needle for inflating balls, and a practical textile storage pouch.
Key features
Xiaomi Mi Portable Air Pump delivers 150 psi (10.3 bar), has a built-in 2000 mAh battery, a LCD display, and simple control using five buttons.
The buttons are also backlit. We appreciate the use of physical buttons instead of touch controls on the display. The design is straightforward, and operation feels very intuitive.
The build quality feels premium—no squeaky plastics even when you press on different areas. The device itself weighs 437 grams; for comparison, the Redmi powerbank with 20,000 mAh has roughly the same weight, but it’s almost half as thin. So you won’t have to worry about carrying it in your pants pocket.
Usage
The central round button turns it on or off. The compressor automatically powers on when you pull the hose out of the red port, and once you attach it to the valve, it detects and displays the current pressure. Don’t be surprised if nothing happens the first time you pull the hose out.
Unfortunately, the manufacturer often ships these compressors with the battery fully drained, even though that doesn’t do the battery any favors. Using the “+” and “–” buttons, you set the desired pressure. After inflating to the preset value, the compressor automatically stops and shows the current pressure again. You can set it in units of “bar” or “psi”.
For inflating, you can also use the manufacturer’s preset values, defined for:
- bicycle (45 psi / 3.1 bar),
- motorcycle (34.8 psi / 2.4 bar),
- car (36.2 psi / 2.5 bar),
- ball (8 psi / 0.5 bar).
With the compressor, you can inflate almost anything. However, you’ll appreciate it most for smaller tires or balls. Since it’s fairly small, inflating car tires takes a bit longer, which may not suit everyone.
After three minutes of inactivity, the compressor automatically turns off—even if you haven’t put the hose back in its place (into the red port). The odd part is that after such a shutdown, the compressor won’t turn back on by pressing any button, even if it’s still connected to the valve. You have to disconnect the hose from the valve, place it into its slot, and pull it out again if you want to turn it on once more.
Air stays right where it belongs
Do you ever get that with traditional pumps or other compressors—when you disconnect or reconnect the hose to the valve, some air escapes? It doesn’t happen here. The hose lets out almost no air, which was a pleasant surprise for us.
The most convenient test was inflating a Xiaomi e-scooter, because with a regular pump we always had some air escaping. With this compressor, the wheels inflate very comfortably, with no pressure loss.
Charging the battery
The status LED indicator at the bottom shows the battery level (white, orange, red). You can simply charge the compressor using a micro-USB cable.
You can also use a power bank or an electric outlet in your car for charging. The charging connector is protected by a rubber cover, so it doesn’t get clogged with dirt.

How much can it inflate?
According to the manufacturer, with one charge you can inflate about 41 footballs or 8 bicycle inner tubes, or 6 motorcycle tires, or 5 car tires (from 2.0 bar to 2.5 bar).
We checked whether it can inflate 8 mountain bike inner tubes with 26-inch wheels to a pressure of 45 psi. At first, we were a bit skeptical, because even with the second inner tube the indicator LED started blinking orange.
In the end, we managed to inflate the bike inner tube exactly 8 times, just as the manufacturer states. During the ninth inflation, the compressor shut off at 10 psi. You can trust the manufacturer’s figures without any problem.
LED light for the dark
At the top of the compressor, you’ll also find a practical LED light to illuminate in worse lighting conditions. The brightness is comparable to typical LED bulbs on mobile phones. For inflating in the evening, it’s completely sufficient.
How fast can you inflate a scooter, bike, or car wheel?
For the first test, we used an Xiaomi Mi Scooter Pro with 10" tires. Inflating the tire from 0 psi to 45 psi took 44 seconds.
A 26" mountain bike wheel can be inflated from 0 psi to 45 psi in 2 minutes, 42 seconds.
Inflating a car tire only by 5 psi (from 30 to 35) it took a full 2 minutes. So if you wanted to inflate a car tire from zero, it would take quite a while.
Noise level during inflation reached between 73 and 87 dB (measured using Sound Meter and Noise Meter apps on Samsung Galaxy S9+ and Redmi Note 7).
During use, the compressor warmed up only slightly. The ventilation grilles for heat dissipation are located on both sides of the device.
Xiaomi Mi Portable Air Pump: Final verdict
Thanks to its compact size, you can take this handy gadget almost anywhere — and it won’t take up much space in your backpack or car.
We’ve been using this compressor for a few months now mainly to inflate bike and e-scooter tires, to inflate balls, and for kids’ inflatables. We’re really happy with it and definitely recommend it to anyone who doesn’t want to break a sweat inflating tires by hand or searching for the nearest gas station.
But if you often need to inflate car or motorcycle tires, a more powerful compressor would be worth considering. If you want to quickly inflate all four car tires, you’ll spend noticeably more time than with a compressor at the gas station.
Cyclists and e-scooter riders will be happy most of all. Especially those who own a Xiaomi e-scooter and struggle with fitting the hose onto the front wheel valve, which is recessed in the plastic wheel cover with very little space around it.
The advantage over regular small compressors that need power is the built-in battery. So you don’t have to drag any cables from the car’s power outlet.

At a price of around 35 €, it’s a very practical helper that will definitely come in handy at home. In our opinion, it’s one of the very best products in the lineup of gadgets from Chinese Xiaomi.
