At today's press conference, Xiaomi introduced a new television alongside a pair of premium flagship smartphones. It is the premium Xiaomi Mi TV LUX, which offers an OLED screen and a very thin body with a thickness of just 5.7 mm.
Xiaomi Mi TV LUX: The world's first transparent television
Xiaomi Mi TV LUX arrives on the market with the OLED Transparent Edition label. It is the world's first mass-produced transparent television.
This television features a specific OLED display that delivers the picture on a transparent panel. Simply put, when the television is turned off, it looks like an ordinary piece of glass.
Premium hardware with 120 Hz and a powerful processor
The highlight of this technology is the top-of-the-line 55″ transparent OLED panel with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, which is just 5.7 mm thick. Like the previous model in the LUX series, this television also uses a panel from LG Display.
The new model thus becomes a direct competitor to the transparent television called LG Transparent OLED Signage 55EW5F-A, whose price however exceeds 25 thousand dollars.
In this case, we are dealing with a more affordable model, although Xiaomi's price also approaches 7 thousand dollars, so this affordability should be taken with a grain of salt.
The television is powered by a custom-made MediaTek 9650 chipset. It includes more than 20 optimization algorithms. As for software, the Chinese manufacturer offers a new MIUI 3.0 version for TVs for its new smart model.
Other features of Xiaomi's new transparent television include Dolby Atmos technology, AOD (always-on display), and a round base that houses all internal equipment and the necessary input and output ports.
Price and availability
The new Xiaomi Mi TV LUX OLED Transparent Edition will arrive on the Chinese market on August 16, 2020. The sale price in China starts at 49 999 RMB. At the current exchange rate, that comes to €6117 / $7198 USD.
