We mostly know Xiaomi here as a maker of phones, watches, and vacuum cleaners. In China, though, it’s a company that can equip your whole apartment — and that’s exactly what it now wants to show Europe. The Mijia brand, under which Xiaomi sells appliances and smart home, is heading to the old continent in full.
First-ever IFA appearance in the company’s history
As reported by the GSMArena website, Xiaomi will take part in the Berlin IFA trade fair for the first time. The press conference is scheduled for 3 September at 10:30 local time — and since Berlin is in the same time zone as we are, it will start for us at the same time.
Today, Mijia covers over 2,000 products in more than 130 categories. Xiaomi is positioning it as the third pillar of its strategy, which it calls “person × car × home” — phone, car, and apartment should work as one whole.
A three-drum washing machine and a radar-equipped air conditioner
Xiaomi pre-mentioned three specific products. The first is a washing machine with three separate drums, designed to handle sorting laundry and removing stains without you having to wash three times in a row. The second is a climate/air conditioner with an mmWave radar, which according to the manufacturer tracks where you are in the room and saves energy accordingly.
The third is a refrigerator with Cryo Fresh technology, intended to keep food fresh for longer. Xiaomi hasn’t yet revealed which of these models will actually reach European stores and for how much — we should find out during the press conference itself.
Not starting from zero
It’s worth remembering that Mijia isn’t starting in Slovakia on a green field. The first global Mijia smart washer-dryer is also sold in Slovakia and the same applies to the 502-litre Cross Door refrigerator. The European lineup also includes Mijia Smart Air Purifier 6 air purifier.
The difference is the scale. Until now, Xiaomi has been bringing individual products to Europe; now it’s talking about the whole brand and a systematic entry. If it works out, it would mean that appliances that have been obtainable only via imports from China so far will get official warranty and service here too.
Xiaomi will also have an Auto at IFA
It doesn’t stop with the household. According to XimiTime, Xiaomi will also bring to Berlin the sport electric car SU7 Ultra and the Vision Gran Turismo concept. You won’t be able to buy the car in Europe yet, but its presence at the trade fair is a clear signal of where the company is heading.
The press conference is already tomorrow morning, so we’ll have to wait just a few hours for specific models, prices, and availability. As soon as we know more, we’ll bring the details.
