Our favorite Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi is preparing the second generation of its foldable flagship device, branded Xiaomi MIX Fold 2. The competitor of the popular Samsung already has a launch date as well.
Xiaomi MIX Fold 2: We know the launch window
Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold, as the first foldable smartphone from Xiaomi, arrived more than a year ago. The device with top-tier specifications and a unique design, however, came with a premium retail price and high production costs. That’s exactly why it was sold exclusively in the Chinese market.
About 18 months later, we expect the arrival of its successor, Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold 2. The second generation should impress right away with several upgrades, as it tries to catch up even with the strongest competitors.
Samsung or Xiaomi?
The foldable devices market is currently quite limited. Devices Z Flip and Z Fold from Samsung hold a dominant position. Other brands have also presented their concepts, such as Oppo, and we can’t forget about Motorola’s Razr smartphones.
Xiaomi wants to match the South Korean manufacturer, and its smartphone Mi MIX Fold 2 is aiming to be introduced even in August. This also lines up with Samsung’s presentation, scheduled for August 10, 2022.
Although we don’t know any other details yet about potential international availability, the Chinese version should definitely arrive within the next few weeks.
These are the expected technical specifications of the foldable smartphone
Mi MIX Fold 2 will face Samsung’s new Z Fold 4 on the market. Based on the information we have, you can look forward to an 8″ foldable display inside, plus a 6.5″ secondary screen on the outside. Both panels should offer high refresh rates.
In terms of performance, there should be a flagship processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. It should be paired with 12 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB of internal storage.
A question mark remains over the design and overall build quality of this device. The debut of the first generation from Xiaomi had its reservations, but our editorial team believes the manufacturer will successfully eliminate these shortcomings in the upcoming version.
