A Chinese giant is bringing a completely new, innovative smart home device control technology. Xiaomi UWB (Ultra Wide Band) is designed to make controlling and setting up smart home devices easier and more straightforward.
A revolution in smart home control
For controlling smart home devices, Xiaomi currently uses the Mi Home app, which they started integrating into MIUI.
You can pair intelligent devices with the app to control them. All devices—motion sensors, thermometers, cameras, or lighting—are in the app in one place, from where you control them.
But Xiaomi UWB promises a revolution in controlling and automating smart home devices. It’s a technology that Xiaomi smartphones should receive in the near future. With it, you’ll be able to control smart home devices simply by pointing your smartphone at the device.

Xiaomi UWB integrated into smartphones
The new UWB technology should be integrated into Xiaomi smartphones as a chip, similar to GPS. It can determine our position in the space where we are located. It should work especially well indoors, where GPS often has problems. A demonstration of localization using UWB technology was presented back at the CES 2020 conference.
With this technology, your phone turns into a smart remote control.
Speed, security, and accuracy
Using this technology, a Xiaomi smartphone can detect smart home devices that are located in the space around the phone. It recognizes what distance they are at and where exactly they are placed—then all you need to do is point your smartphone toward the device you want to control.
Xiaomi says this is only the tip of the iceberg of everything the new technology will bring. It literally promises a revolution in smart home automation.
The manufacturer states it will be a fast, secure, and highly precise control technology for other smart devices.
The goal of Xiaomi UWB is to reach a state where we have to interfere as little as possible with smartphone-based control. Some device control features should therefore happen without touching the smartphone’s display. For example, a smart door lock could be unlocked as you approach it.
Smart bulbs, fans, sensors, and other intelligent devices should therefore be controlled in a completely new way over time.
The new technology will also make it easier to share content from your smartphone display to a large TV screen. Everything will be possible with just one tap of your finger.
