Xiaomi Watch 5 vs OnePlus Watch 4: Xiaomi has a 44 % larger battery. In a direct test, it didn't help by even a day

17. September 2026 14 min read 2 comments

The showdown Xiaomi Watch 5 vs OnePlus Watch 4 is one of the most interesting smartwatch decisions of 2026 in the Wear OS category. Both use the same chip, the same memory, and the same operating system, but what’s on your wrist is different in almost everything else. One bet on the biggest battery Xiaomi has ever put in a smartwatch, while the other went for titanium, low weight, and a noticeably lower price.

We haven’t tested either of these watches in our own editorial office yet, so we went through international reviews that measured them in real-world use and complemented them with the official specs from both manufacturers.

Below you’ll find a parameter-by-parameter comparison, and at the end, a clear answer on which one is better for you and which one for someone else.

A detailed guide is coming soon.

Design & durability: steel vs titanium

Xiaomi went with the classic approach. Watch 5’s case is made from 316L stainless steel with a monoblock casting and CNC machining, so the watch looks bulky and premium. The most interesting detail is sapphire glass on both sides — it protects not only the display, but also the underside with the sensors, which is something you usually don’t get at this price.

OnePlus took a different route. All-titanium case means that at the same diameter it weighs 43 grams instead of 56 — almost a quarter less — and the thickness drops to 11 millimeters. You can feel the difference immediately on the wrist, especially when sleeping. Plus, OnePlus Watch 4 has MIL-STD-810H certification and IP68 as well as IP69 protection — Xiaomi Watch 5 relies only on 5ATM water resistance.

Both watches come in just one case size, around 47 mm, which international reviewers consistently label as a drawback for slimmer wrists. If you want a smaller model, neither will suit you. In this section, OnePlus wins — and clearly. It’s lighter, thinner, and more durable.

Reviewer MrArchieTech, who tested both watches side by side, added a few insights you won’t find in the parameter tables. In his glass protection test, only OnePlus achieved true sapphire; Xiaomi didn’t quite reach the declared hardness in his measurement.

The device doesn’t measure hardness, but the speed at which the glass conducts heat — sapphire transfers it significantly faster than tempered glass. OnePlus Watch 4 made it into the sapphire range, while Xiaomi Watch 5 stayed just below it. Source: MrArchieTech – YouTube

The display setup also differs. On Watch 5, the glass slightly protrudes above the frame, so nothing protects it if you hit it from the side — whereas on OnePlus it’s recessed, and you can feel the edge of the protective bezel with your fingernail. However, neither passed the knife test; both scratched.

On the underside, the reviewer confirmed the sapphire on the Xiaomi and also called the entire sensor assembly more premium. On OnePlus, the area above the sensors is regular glass, and it looks more modest.

Display: pay attention to how brightness is compared

The difference in diagonal is minimal: 1,54 inches vs 1,5 inches. Xiaomi has a slightly higher resolution of 480 × 480 pixels and 312 PPI, while OnePlus has 466 × 466 pixels and 310 PPI. To the eye, you won’t tell the difference — the image is sharp on both.

Source: MrArchieTech – YouTube

Be careful when comparing brightness, because the marketing numbers from both brands don’t measure the same thing. OnePlus lists 3000 nits, but that’s a top value on a small area for a short moment. In the high-brightness mode that the display can actually sustain, both watches land at 1500 to 1600 nits, so they’re practically equal. Readability in direct sunlight is therefore good on both—and the difference isn’t nearly as dramatic as the manufacturer tables suggest.

The real advantage of OnePlus is elsewhere—in the panel type. LTPO can dynamically lower the refresh rate, so the always-on display uses less energy. Xiaomi makes up for it with a larger and slightly smoother area. A close win for OnePlus, but not because of brightness.

Where you’ll truly notice the brightness difference is the always-on display. When you compare them side by side, the AOD on the Xiaomi Watch 5 is noticeably darker, and it’s harder to read outside—while OnePlus keeps its display bright. The opposite is true with auto brightness: it sometimes feels a bit unpredictable on OnePlus, while Xiaomi responds more reliably.

Performance: same hardware, different software layer

Here’s a short comparison, because both watches run on the same pair of chips—Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 and the BES2800 coprocessor—and they also have the same 2 GB RAM and 32 GB storage. The principle is the same for both: demanding tasks are handled by the main chip, while notifications and sensors in the background are managed by the power-saving coprocessor.

So the difference comes down only to software optimization. Reviewers of OnePlus have repeatedly praised the smoothness of the OxygenOS Watch interface, while with Xiaomi there’s a criticism that the software isn’t as user-friendly as the competition—and that the watch faces fall behind in quality. At the same time, both are criticized for using the older Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 platform. Performance is essentially a tie, and in terms of day-to-day feel, OnePlus has a slight edge.

Battery: on paper, Xiaomi—tied in a direct test

This is Xiaomi’s biggest argument. The Watch 5 comes with a 930 mAh Xiaomi Surge battery with ten percent silicon-carbon material—making it the highest capacity the brand has ever put into a watch. OnePlus Watch 4 has 646 mAh, so that’s over 40% less.

Xiaomi Watch 5 – batéria 930 mAh
Xiaomi Watch 5

Manufacturers claim 6 days in smart mode for Xiaomi and 5 days for OnePlus, and in power-saving mode 18 versus 16 days. What’s more interesting is what reviewers measured. GSMArena got five full days on the Watch 5 with normal use, with health tracking enabled, while TechAdvisor reports three to four days with heavy use and close to a week with light use.

Independent tests for OnePlus Watch 4 agree on three to four days with always-on display enabled, all-day health monitoring, and daily workouts. Charging is faster on the OnePlus side, roughly one hour to seventy-five minutes versus about ninety minutes for Xiaomi. If you want to charge as rarely as possible, Xiaomi is the better pick.

The paper advantage, however, was lost in a direct head-to-head. MrArchieTech wore both watches at the same time under the same conditions — AOD on, all notifications, heart-rate tracking every five minutes, and a daily 30-minute GPS workout. Result: both lasted exactly three days. Even a 20-minute GPS workout drained the battery on both by the same amount, 3%. So the nearly twice-larger Xiaomi capacity, in practice, dissolves in the system and display consumption. The difference showed up only on the idle watches — after an hour on the table, Xiaomi lost 1%, while OnePlus lost nothing.

OnePlus charging dock is also more convenient: it’s a square puck with a standard USB-C port instead of a cable permanently attached to the charger, and it charges about a fifth faster.

Wear OS, Gemini, and payments: practically a tie

Both watches run on Wear OS 6, both give you access to Google Play, Google Maps, and Google Wallet, and both offer a Gemini assistant directly on your wrist. OnePlus also adds its own OxygenOS Watch 8 overlay and a dual system mode that, when switched to power-saving mode, turns off Wear OS and takes over with the energy-saving chip.

Xiaomi, on the other hand, has one feature the competitor doesn’t have at all: gesture control via an EMG sensor. The watch recognizes double-finger pinch, wrist rotation, or a snap, so you can reject a call or start a timer without touching the screen. It’s not a feature you’d switch watches for, but it works—and you can’t find it anywhere else.

For NFC payments, watch out for one thing — Google Wallet availability on both models is tied to the region and your bank, so check support for your card before buying.

Health and sports: accuracy is only average for both.

Xiaomi offers more than 150 sports modes, OnePlus has over 100, plus eleven pro modes with more detailed metrics. Both use five-system GNSS with L1 and L5 bands, so on paper they’re equally matched. The only sensor OnePlus has in addition is a thermometer.

Added 18. 9. 2026: Xiaomi Watch 5 have EKG. At the European launch in February, the feature was missing, but Xiaomi later unlocked it via a software update — users report it starting from the end of July 2026. On the official European page, today the EKG app is listed with CE certification under EU MDR 2017/745, including detection of atrial fibrillation. Measurements are not intended for people under 18 or for those with known arrhythmias, and they do not replace a doctor. Originally, we stated that Watch 5 EKG doesn’t have it—we based that on a comparison made with a rendering prepared before this update. Thanks to our readers for the heads-up.

OnePlus Watch 4 – sledovanie behu

In practice, though, it’s not that rosy for either one. Reviewers of the Xiaomi Watch 5 repeatedly reported that dual-band GPS has trouble in dense urban areas and reliably works only in open terrain, even though outdoors running still delivered comparable distances and pace to Garmin sports watches. For the OnePlus Watch 4, it’s reported that recorded routes can sometimes show small deviations, and dedicated sports watches are more accurate. When running on the same route with both models at once, OnePlus’ recording looked cleaner and more faithful, but a short detour off course—just a few steps to the trash can and back—captured both reliably.

Heart-rate measurement on both is good enough for regular training, but not for precise analysis. With the OnePlus Watch 4, the resting deviation was less than two beats per minute, while with Xiaomi the values in the gym and on a bike matched the chest strap. If you’re training to the second, none of these watches can replace the chest strap.

Under load, it’s even worse than it seems. In a direct comparison with the Magene H303 chest strap, Xiaomi Watch 5 reached a maximum deviation of 32 beats per minute, while OnePlus Watch 4 had 19 beats—and both were inaccurate repeatedly. The step counter is much better: in a test with 500 steps, both watches stayed within a one-percent deviation. This section ends with a narrow win for OnePlus, which has a slightly more reliable heart-rate sensor, tracks sleep more accurately, and adds a thermometer. EKG can handle it now on both.

Workouts in detail: here Xiaomi scores points back.

If you expect more from the watch than just starting a run, the differences are bigger than the number of sports modes would suggest. On the OnePlus Watch 4 interval training, split times, heart-rate streaming to other devices, and GPX route support are missing—Xiaomi has all of it. The distance goal on OnePlus is set only in whole kilometers, while on Xiaomi you set it in hundreds of meters.

Xiaomi alerts you during a workout for every kilometer you cover and also reminds you to stay hydrated, while OnePlus only chimes in when you exceed your target heart rate. Watch 5 can also count laps and stages; during GPS workouts, you can swipe down to bring up the map, and you can end the workout by holding the bottom button — on OnePlus you always have to use the display. Customizing the workout screen is a weakness on both: Xiaomi doesn’t allow anything, while OnePlus at least lets you tweak a few small things on the main screen.

OnePlus handles two things better. On it, you can enable automatic workout detection only for specific sports, so the watch won’t ask you every time you walk into a supermarket — on Xiaomi it’s all or nothing. And if you pause a workout, OnePlus keeps measuring your heart rate, while Xiaomi freezes it.

Notifications, sound and controls: the little things that matter

The most noticeable everyday difference: OnePlus Watch 4 doesn’t wake the display when a notification arrives — just like the two previous generations — and shows only the app icon in the alert. Xiaomi turns the screen on and also adds a text preview, so you can read the message without another tap. Calling works equally well on both straight out of the box.

Xiaomi has a built-in voice recorder in the system, while on OnePlus you have to install it from the store — and on it, you can practically not listen to the recording directly on your wrist, because playback volume is too low. The microphones are good on both, though. The speaker also sounds cleaner on Xiaomi. Don’t expect a music player in the watch from either one — there isn’t a built-in one, and you can’t access internal storage through native apps. Also note that a strap tightened too much can cover the speaker and microphone on both watches.

The vibration motor is the same on both: linear and decent, though it doesn’t reach the level of the Galaxy Watch Ultra or Apple Watch — but OnePlus lets you set a different vibration pattern for timers and notifications, directly on the watch. Buttons are where they swap places: OnePlus offers four customizable actions (two on the bottom button and two on the top button), Xiaomi only two, but it uses them more sensibly — the bottom button acts as a stop button in the voice recorder and in the stopwatch, which you’ll appreciate even with gloves on. Xiaomi’s preinstalled watch faces, on the other hand, are locked to English, while the ones on OnePlus support more languages.

Price: the biggest difference in the whole comparison

Xiaomi Watch 5 entered the Slovak market with a recommended price close to €300, and in sales from European warehouses they drop slightly below that. The global version of OnePlus Watch 4 is commonly bought for under €220, meaning roughly a third less.

A detailed guide is coming soon.

That difference is crucial in the evaluation. We’re not talking about two models in the same price class that differ in details — we’re talking about two watches separated by almost a hundred euros, and for that money you can buy a decent pair of headphones on top.

Final verdict: which one should you choose

After the two watches went head-to-head in twelve disciplines, it ended in a 4:4 tie with four draws. Once price is taken into account, though, the scales tip.

OnePlus Watch 4 are the smarter buy for most people. They are noticeably lighter and thinner, have a more efficient LTPO panel, much better durability including military certification, faster charging, and cost a third less. For that price, the titanium case with sapphire glass is an almost unbeatable offer, and with three to four days of battery life we’re still talking about watches you charge twice a week.

Updated 6/10/2026: On July 17, 2026, OnePlus officially announced that it will no longer launch new products in Europe and North America, including watches. For devices already sold, it promises updates within the originally promised scope, valid warranties, and further service. The statutory warranty for purchases through GShopper or AliExpress is still handled by the seller. However, don’t expect a Watch 4 successor in Europe, and long-term support is uncertain.

Choose the Xiaomi Watch 5 if your top priority is battery life and the display. The 930 mAh battery is in a class of its own, and tests confirm it with five days of real-world operation. You also get a larger and smoother screen, sapphire glass even on the underside with sensors, more sports modes, and gesture control via EMG—something your competitors don’t offer. If you already use Mi Fitness and the Xiaomi ecosystem, it’s the more logical pick.

One thing will decide it for you: camera control with a live preview on the watch display is offered by both, but it works reliably only with a phone from the same brand. If you’ve got a Xiaomi or OnePlus phone in hand, the choice is obvious.

Who won’t benefit from either? Someone with a slim wrist, because both are made only in one larger size. And also anyone who needs accurate sports tracking—after this comparison, there are better specialized watches for that.
