Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi is also known for its new smartwatch lineup. And besides the trio of new smartphones from the Xiaomi 12 series, we also got new smartwatches with an AMOLED display, labeled Xiaomi Watch S1.
Xiaomi Watch S1: New smartwatches with an AMOLED display
The Xiaomi Watch S1 smartwatches feature a round design made from high-quality, glossy metal materials (316L steel). There will be a sporty version with a silicone strap, which will be cheaper, as well as a more elegant and more expensive version with a pair of leather straps in a blue / brown color combination.
When we look at the specs of these watches, on the front you’ll find a truly large and smooth 1.43″ touch AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 60 Hz and a resulting smoothness level of up to 326 ppi (466 x 466 pixels). The display is covered by a flat, durable sapphire glass. The watch body also supports enhanced water resistance with certification 5 ATM.
117 sports activities and up to 24 days on a single charge
On the right side, you’ll then find two physical buttons used to control the watch’s software. It’s developed “in-house” directly by Xiaomi. As expected, the watches don’t include Google’s Wear OS. Still, there’s support for (mainly Chinese) third-party apps, plus an integrated NFC chip (the Chinese version will support payments only via AliPay).
There will be up to 200 different watch faces, and the watches also support calling via Bluetooth technology. The premium smartwatches should be equipped with a standard set of sensors for physical activity monitoring and up to 117 sports activities (including swimming).
Sport activity monitoring is also enhanced by an integrated GNSS chip, which collects location data from five of the most commonly used satellite systems (GPS, Beidou, Galileo, GLONASS, and QZSS).
Heart rate monitoring, sleep quality monitoring, and control of smart products through the intelligent XiaoAI assistant are also included (Chinese only). The integrated battery will provide a total battery life of up to 12 days on a single charge with typical use, or up to 24 days in battery-saving mode. Charging is handled by a wireless charger that the manufacturer includes in the watch box.
Price and availability of the new smartwatches: Xiaomi Watch S1
The new smartwatches named Xiaomi Watch S1 should start selling on the home Chinese market in just a few days alongside Xiaomi 12 flagship smartphones—specifically on December 31, 2021.
Its starting sale price, depending on the version, is 1099 yuan (silicone strap) / 1199 yuan (leather strap). In the current conversion, that’s approximately €152 / $172 for the cheaper version, or €166 / $188 for the more expensive one.
