Xiaomi doesn’t use a pure Android operating system on its devices, but enhances it with its own custom skin called MIUI. It also includes the manufacturer’s own Xiaomi apps, which are often better than those from other skins.
Another big advantage is that Xiaomi doesn’t just keep these apps for its smartphone users—it publishes them publicly in the Google Play store, and they’re free. Here’s a selection of the most interesting ones.
ShareMe
The first app is ShareMe. Basically, it works like the AirDrop we know from iPhones. With this app, you can wirelessly send files and create a Wi‑Fi network between smartphones, so you can achieve higher transfer speeds.
Keep in mind, though, that not all manufacturers support ShareMe. Supported brands include Xiaomi, Redmi, POCO, Realme, OPPO, Black Shark, Meizu, OnePlus, ZTE, Hisense, ASUS, ROG Phone, Samsung, and Lenovo. You can download ShareMe here.
Mi Calendar
All Android smartphones come with a preinstalled calendar directly from Google, which suits many of us, but here too there’s an alternative from Xiaomi called Mi Calendar. It has a simple layout and a well-handled, great-looking interface.
On top of that, you can add events and notes, and there’s even the option to sync your calendars with different accounts. You can download Mi Calendar here.
POCO Launcher
Do you have a smartphone with a custom skin, but you like the one from POCO? No problem. Xiaomi has you covered too, so they prepared the POCO Launcher app. This interface is very similar to what we know from MIUI.
You can also adjust the look itself, giving you a smartphone that looks graphically identical to POCO phones. You can download POCO Launcher here.
Mint Launcher
We don’t stop at customizing the Android environment. Mint Launcher is very similar to the MIUI interface. You can look forward to plenty of customization options—you can even change the icon style and other system aspects. You can download Mint Launcher here.
Mi Weather
Next up is the weather forecast app. It features a well-thought-out design with nice animations and very detailed weather information around you. A surprise is the air quality data, wind speed, humidity percentage, and many other details. You can download Mi Weather here.
Mi File Manager
Sometimes, in some custom skins, the system may be missing the preinstalled File Manager app. If you don’t have one, this is a great alternative. From this app, you can access all files on your smartphone and manage them.
A great option is also file access and management in cloud storage, such as Google Drive. You can download Mi File Manager here.
Mi Calculator
The last recommended app is a calculator. You’ll say, well, everyone has one on Android, but this isn’t just an ordinary calculator. Besides the basic function, it offers a lot more. You can also calculate things like dates, convert temperatures, BMI, speed, convert currencies, and many other things. You can download Mi Calculator here.
