Just a few days after the launch of the series Xiaomi 17, including the Pro and Pro Max models for the Chinese market, the first leaked details about the upcoming flagship for global customers — Xiaomi 17 Ultra — are starting to appear.

According to the latest leaks, this smartphone is aimed at delivering a premium photography experience and will also bring modern connectivity technologies.
Five cameras and a 1-inch sensor
According to leaked specifications, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will feature a quad setup of 50 MPx sensors on the back right away, plus a front 50 MPx “selfie” camera. So all sensors should offer high resolution, which is also a crucial step for the front camera, which in the past at Xiaomi was often stuck at 32 MPx.

The main star is an entirely new sensor, OVX10500U, likely from OmniVision, offering a resolution of 50 MPx and, according to the leaks, a physical size of up to 1″. Such a large sensor is also found in the predecessor Xiaomi 15 Ultra, where it delivers excellent results.
Besides the main camera, these sensors are expected:
- OVX10500U: the main 50 MPx sensor
- JN5: an ultra-wide 50 MPx sensor
- JN5: a 50 MPx telephoto lens
- HPE: a periscope telephoto lens up to 200 MPx
- OV50M: 50 MPx front “selfie” camera

The biggest surprise is the 200 MPx periscope telephoto lens itself, which should take zooming to a whole new level and beat the competition at least on the numbers. In real life, only testing will show how well this sensor handles image processing.
Get ready for the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5
The new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is expected to power the device. This chipset will deliver not only high performance for gaming and multitasking, but also support for advanced AI algorithms that are crucial today for photo and video processing. As a result, it’s expected that the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will handle 8K video as well as extremely demanding computational tasks related to photography.

A global upgrade will be satellite connectivity support
An even bigger novelty than the cameras: the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will arrive in some variants with satellite connectivity. Models marked 25128PNA1G and 25128PNA1C are said to be able to connect to a satellite network — a huge step forward.
So far, satellite features were available only on Chinese versions of smartphones. This means that global users could gain access to SOS communication or basic data transmission even in areas without mobile signal. In addition, standard model numbers have also appeared: 2512BPNDAG, 2512BPNDAI, and 2512BPNDAC, with India expected to get a version without satellite connectivity.
A design without a rear display
Unlike the Pro and Pro Max models, which experiment with a secondary display on the back, Xiaomi 17 Ultra apparently won’t offer this feature, based on leaks. Xiaomi has likely decided to focus purely on top-tier optics and connectivity, without adding extra elements that would complicate the design or increase power consumption.

If this information is confirmed, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will be one of the most significant smartphones of the year. It will deliver a top-tier five-camera setup, including a unique 200 MPx periscope, the return of the 1-inch sensor, and for the first time also satellite connectivity for the global market. For fans of mobile photography and technology, this looks like a device that will go down in Xiaomi history.

For now, we’ll have to wait for the official announcement and confirmation of the specs. But if the leaked information checks out, we can look forward to one of the most advanced smartphones of the year 2025.
