Xiaomi today officially unveiled a new Xiaomi 17 Max for the Chinese market, already targeting users who want a large display, maximum battery life, top-tier performance, and especially a significantly enhanced photography setup.

The biggest Xiaomi community in Slovakia

The new model brings a 6,9-inch AMOLED display, up to a 8000 mAh battery, 100 W wired charging, 50 W wireless charging, and the very first 200 MPx Leica main camera in the Xiaomi series.

A big 6,9″ display with top-notch brightness

The highlight of the new device is a 6,9-inch flat AMOLED display with very narrow bezels, which, according to Xiaomi, are only 1,28 mm on every side. The manufacturer went with a classic 2D flat panel with an aspect ratio of 19,6:9, which should help with better grip despite the large diagonal.

The panel offers a resolution of 2608 × 1200 px, a pixel density of 420 PPI, an adaptive refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz, a 12-bit color depth, a P3 color gamut, and support for Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and HDR Vivid.

Maximum brightness reaches up to 3500 nits, and thanks to the new M10 light system, the illumination efficiency is said to be 11.4% higher. There’s no shortage of TÜV Rheinland certification for low blue light, a power-saving circadian mode, and the absence of flicker.

200 MP Leica camera as the main star

The biggest draw is the camera setup. Xiaomi 17 Max comes with a triple rear Leica system, based on the 200 MP Leica main camera with the HP9 sensor, 1/1.4″ sensor size, f/1.65 aperture, optical image stabilization, QPD autofocus, and a 7P aspheric lens. The main sensor supports 16-in-1 pixel combining to reach a size of 2.24 μm.

The second camera is a 50 MP Leica periscope telephoto lens with a 1/2″ sensor, f/2.4 aperture, 3× optical zoom, OIS, and support for 15 cm telemacro. The third sensor is a 50 MP Leica ultra-wide-angle camera with a 102° field of view, f/2.4 aperture, an equivalent focal length of 17 mm, and a 6P lens. The front camera has a 32 MP resolution, f/2.2 aperture, and a 90° wide view.

Video up to 8K and 4K Dolby Vision

Rear camera supports 8K video at 30 fps, 4K video at 30, 60 at 120 fps, Full HD video at 30 or 60 fps, and slow-motion shots up to 960 fps at 1080p and 720p. Xiaomi also highlights 4K 60 fps Dolby Vision recording across focal lengths, its own EIS algorithm, and 4-microphone 3D spatial audio capture.

An interesting feature is dynamic photos and new movie motion templates, including modes like “red carpet”, “main character”, and a free mode. The front camera handles 4K video at 30 fps and Full HD video at 30 or 60 fps.

Snapdragon 8 Elite 5th generation and HyperOS 3

The 5th generation Snapdragon 8 Elite handles performance, built on the 3rd generation 3 nm manufacturing process from TSMC. The processor uses the 3rd generation of Qualcomm Oryon architecture, and the highest frequency reaches 4,6 GHz. The graphics are handled by the Adreno GPU, and AI tasks are handled by the Qualcomm AI Engine.

Xiaomi states a CPU performance increase of 20 %, GPU by 23 %, AI performance by 37 %, and a reduction in GPU power consumption by 20 %. The hardware includes LPDDR5X RAM, UFS 4.1 storage, and a maximum configuration of 16 GB RAM + 512 GB. The system is Xiaomi HyperOS 3 with Xiaomi Super Island, Super XiaoAI features, and expanded integration with the Apple ecosystem.

A massive 8000 mAh battery

Xiaomi 17 Max has a battery with a capacity of 8000 mAh, or at least 7830 mAh. It’s a Xiaomi Jinshajiang silicon-carbon battery with silicon content up to 16%. The manufacturer claims that after 1600 charging cycles, the battery can still deliver at least 80% of the original capacity.

Charging supports 100 W Xiaomi Surge wired charging and 50 W Xiaomi Surge wireless charging. There’s also 22.5 W wired reverse charging and wireless reverse charging. Xiaomi also mentions Xiaomi Surge P3 chips for fast charging and Xiaomi Surge G2 for battery management.

IP68/IP69, Wi-Fi 7 and USB 3.2 durability

The body is 8.15 mm thick and weighs 219 grams. The front is protected by Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass 3.0, and the package also includes the 3D ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, which is designed to work even with wet or dirty fingers. The smartphone comes with IP68 and IP69 certifications, so it’s ready for dust, water, rain, and tougher day-to-day situations.

Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, Dual-Bluetooth, NFC, an infrared controller, USB 3.2 Gen1 with a theoretical speed of up to 5 Gbps, and support for two nanoSIM cards. Xiaomi also lists broad 5G band support, including n1, n3, n7, n20, n28, n38, n41, n77, n78, and more.

Prices in China start at around 559 €

Xiaomi 17 Max is first available in China via pre-order, with the official sale starting on 25. May at 10:00 local time. Prices after the state subsidy are set very attractively—especially considering the 8000 mAh battery, the 200 MP Leica camera, and the new Snapdragon 8 Elite.

  • 12 GB RAM + 256 GB storage: 4299 yuan / approx. 559 €
  • 16 GB RAM + 256 GB storage: 4599 yuan / approx. 598 €
  • 12 GB RAM + 512 GB storage: 4899 yuan / approx. 637 €
  • 16 GB RAM + 512 GB storage: 5299 yuan / approx. 689 €

Recommended retail prices are higher without the subsidy and range from 4799 to 5799 yuan, which is roughly 624 to 754 €. If you import from China, though, keep in mind that the final price for European customers may be higher due to shipping, the seller’s margin, or any additional fees.
