With the new Mi 8, Xiaomi reached a new milestone: 1 million units sold in crazy 18 days

Not so long ago, Xiaomi introduced its new flagship, Xiaomi Mi 8. It caught attention not only with its specs, but also with excellent camera tuning. The Android smartphone, which is the first to come with dual-band GPS, 3D face scanning, and an unbelievably low price tag, sold in an impressive number of 1 million units in just 18 days!

The news was announced by Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun on the social network Weibo. No surprise—at an approximate price of €390, the smartphone sold out in an incredible 38 seconds in its very first sale.

Competitors might be jealous of its sell-through, because Xiaomi markets itself by offering very high-quality, affordable products without investing those million-worth amounts into advertising. It’s worth noting that Xiaomi is “at home” primarily in the Chinese and Indian markets and doesn’t operate globally like some of its competitors.

Main advantages of Xiaomi Mi 8

  • Flagship processor from Qualcomm, model Snapdragon 845 with the graphics chip Adreno 630
  • Dual 12 MPx camera with aperture f/1.8 (main camera) and aperture f/2.4 (telephoto lens)
  • Front camera with resolution of 20 MPx and pixel size of 1.8μm, with AI support for better shots
  • 6.21″ AMOLED display with an unusual aspect ratio of 18.7:9 and HDR support
  • Android 8.1 with a custom overlay MIUI 9.5

Cameras that even beat the iPhone X

Advanced users agree that in the previous years Xiaomi didn’t really impress with the quality of its cameras. But that’s changing with the arrival of Mi 8, and even in earlier models we can see that the company definitely learned from this—and is starting to actively compete even with the biggest names.

This assumption is confirmed by the company DxO Mark, which focuses on testing cameras – including mobile ones. The flagship Mi 8 holds an impressive 5th place in the global ranking with a score of 99 points, i.e. the same as, for example, Samsung Galaxy S9+. There’s no doubt that Xiaomi’s popularity continues to grow, as evidenced by the strong sales of its products. Users can thus enjoy a ton of entertainment for not much money.
