It hasn’t been that long since people started talking about price hikes for flagships from various brands, exactly because of the Snapdragon 865. But soon we’ll have its successor – Snapdragon 875 and the first details look very promising.

A well-known Chinese source nicknamed Digital Chat Station recently revealed in its Twitter post that the main selling point should be ultra-fast charging up to 100 W. Based on its previous predictions, the information seems credible.

Gaming smartphones will be one level higher again

Snapdragon 875 will bring, besides the main key feature of fast charging, a lot more too. These are supposed to be technologies focused on artificial intelligence or the advanced technology of a selfie camera built under the display.

At the moment, though, high-capacity batteries and fast chargers are still in testing phase. Certain Chinese brands are constantly working on fine-tuning them and fully launching them together with the new processor. It’s expected that the first pieces will come from well-known leaders like Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo.

Snapdragon 875 won’t be cheap

But this renewed step forward immediately comes at its price. The amount should thus increase by up to 2/3 compared to the previous generation. Whereas the still-current Snapdragon 865 costs as a standalone component 150 USD, for the new Snapdragon 875 the price is estimated at up to 250 USD.

High performance doesn’t just mean positive things. What manufacturers will have to deal with, and what can’t be avoided, is quality cooling.

In the past, there have already been several cases of poorly solved cooling, where even an average user could feel that something wasn’t right. All that’s left is to hope the solution will be optimal and won’t show up significantly in the final product’s price.

There’s no doubt that Qualcomm is by far the best mobile processor manufacturer in the world. It earned its reputation mainly through years of presence and experience in the market with many manufacturers and users.

If we ignore MediaTek and the company’s own chips from Samsung and Huawei, Qualcomm is basically a monopoly and has no competition within Android smartphones.

The 800 series delivers the highest performance along with the latest technologies. That’s also why the current Snapdragon 865 has increased in price significantly, precisely because of the new 5G technology.

We could notice it, for example, with the Poco F2 Pro, where the price started at the officially set 499 EUR. When we compare it with its predecessor, it’s almost double the increase.

The only question left is whether manufacturers will still shift price-accessible smartphones to a “premium” price tier with Snapdragon leading, or whether they’ll go for the competition in the form of the aforementioned MediaTek.
