We recommend buying a tripod for the telescope
With 25x magnification, it’s already very difficult to keep the image stable with your hands alone—so it’s definitely worth getting a tripod for the Celestron SkyMaster 25×70. The telescope weighs about 1.47 kg and includes an adapter for the standard 1/4″ thread, so it’s compatible with common photo tripods. We picked two options depending on how much you want to invest in the tripod.
Cheaper option: K&F Concept KF09.101 / K234A0
If you’re mainly looking for a great price-to-quality ratio, K&F Concept KF09.101 is enough. It’s an aluminum tripod with a stated load capacity of up to 8 kg, so the almost 1.5 kg SkyMaster will handle it with plenty of headroom. It has a classic ball head and a maximum height of 160 cm.

However, that height is its biggest compromise. Without pulling out the center column significantly, it has about 116 cm, and at the maximum 160 cm it won’t be as stable.

When observing the landscape or relaxing in a seating area, it’s not an issue—but when observing the sky, for a taller person 160 cm can be too little. Because when you point the telescope upward, the eyepieces end up even lower.
Pros: lower price, 8 kg load capacity, compact size, and stability that’s fully sufficient for normal viewing. The downside is the ball head and a maximum height of 160 cm.
A better choice for sky viewing: K&F Concept T254A7 + FH-03
If you want to use the telescope more often—especially for observing the Moon or the night sky—a more comfortable option is the K&F Concept T254A7 with the FH-03 fluid head. By the way, we use it in the editorial office for shooting and filming, and it’s really excellent. Its big advantage is a maximum height of up to 231 cm, so you can set the telescope high enough even when observing objects above your head.

Instead of a ball head, it uses a fluid video head with a handle, letting the spotting scope move smoothly left-right and up-down. At 25x magnification, it’s noticeably more comfortable than constantly loosening and tightening a classic ball head. The FH-03 has a load capacity of about 5 kg, which is still more than enough for the SkyMaster 25×70.
Pros: height up to 231 cm, much more comfortable viewing of objects thanks to the fluid head, and better usability for astronomical observations. The downside is the higher price and larger size compared to the cheaper model.
Our take: if you want the tripod mainly as a budget-friendly add-on and you’ll use the telescope rather occasionally, the KF09.101 at a lower price is completely enough. But if you plan to observe the sky regularly and don’t want to bend forward every time you look upward, it’s worth paying extra for T254A7 + FH-03. The difference between the maximum height of 160 and 231 cm is quite significant in practice for this type of telescope.

Optics quality and brightness for night observations
The main advantage of the Celestron SkyMaster 25×70 spotting scope is its large 70 mm objective lens, which enables excellent light gathering. Combined with 25x magnification and multi-coated optics, it delivers a sharp, high-contrast and bright image even in poorer lighting conditions—for example when observing stars, the Moon, or distant landscapes at sunset.
The telescope uses high-quality BaK-4 prisms, ensuring higher light transmission and minimizing chromatic distortion. That way, you can enjoy excellent sharpness across the entire field of view and natural colors.
Durable body and comfortable viewing even with glasses
The telescope body is covered with a protective rubber coating that increases durability and ensures a firm grip even in colder or damp weather. Long eye relief eyepieces (eye relief 13 mm) are also great for users who wear glasses, which isn’t always standard at this price.
Adjustable interpupillary distance in the range of 56–72 mm lets you tailor the telescope to each viewer. There is also a diopter correction in the range of -4 to +8, so you can fine-tune the image precisely to your eyesight.
Perfect for sky and ground observations
SkyMaster 25×70 is an excellent choice for astronomical observations. The Limiting stellar magnitude reaches up to 11.73 in ideal conditions, so with this model you can also observe fainter objects like star clusters or galaxies.
With an angular field of view of 2.7° and a linear range of 47 meters to 1000 meters, it’s also suitable for observing landscapes, animals, or ships on the horizon. The focusing distance starts at 23 meters, so it’s not ideal for very close objects, but its strong point is the long reach and brightness.
A telescope ready for long observation sessions
The package includes a practical tripod adapter, which is a huge advantage in this price range. With 25x zoom, even the smallest hand movement causes image shake—so a tripod is highly recommended for comfortable viewing.
At 1.47 kg, it falls into the medium-weight category of spotting scopes. Carrying is made easier by the included carrying case, which also protects the telescope from damage during transport.
