At today’s Redmi conference held in China, it wasn’t only Redmi Note 7 Pro smartphones and Redmi 7 that were unveiled. We also got two new products that we wouldn’t have expected from the Redmi brand.
These won’t be only smartphones anymore
As of January this year, Redmi has been a separate, independent brand. For smartphones, they have their own R&D center and operate completely independently. And they plan to keep going. Redmi’s brand CEO, Lu Weibing, said during the conference that the brand wants for people around the world to bring affordable devices for different purposes.
Not only smartphones, but also its own accessories and household appliances. So Redmi will have its own ecosystem of devices, similar to Xiaomi. Their goal—and even their mission—is to become the king of affordability across a wide range of products.
They describe their new strategy in several points:
- An extremely “sexy” price-to-performance ratio
- Focus on high quality
- Accelerate internationalization
- Bring high-end smartphones
- Contribute to the development of 5G, expand product categories, develop AIoT, and expand the Redmi device ecosystem
From this, it’s clear that it will now be a new brand of affordable smart devices. At the conference, they unveiled the first two extremely affordable products – Redmi AirDots wireless earbuds and the Redmi 1A automatic washing machine.
Completely wireless Redmi AirDots earbuds
The very first wireless earbuds from the Redmi brand are called Redmi AirDots. They took the name from the well-known Xiaomi AirDots, and overall they’re very similar earbuds. You get an elegant black design along with a charging case.
They come with a Bluetooth 5.0 chip, and their key advantage is automatic connection within a second. One earbud weighs just 4,9 g, and the manufacturer promises comfortable wear. The earbuds battery provides up to 4 hours of use, and with the charging case it’s extended by another 12 hours.
The earbuds also include a physical button you can use to summon a virtual assistant. They support not only XiaoAI, but also Siri and the Google Assistant. And best of all at the end – the price. Redmi AirDots are among the cheapest fully wireless earbuds on the market! In their home country (China), they’ll be available from 9.4.2019 for a price of just 99.9 yuan, which is about €13 / 340 CZK.
The Redmi 1A automatic washing machine
The first Redmi home device is the Redmi 1A automatic washing machine, with a laundry capacity of 8 kg. The washer comes with a minimalist design in white. The top lid is transparent, so you’ll be able to see what state your laundry is in.
It includes 10 wash modes and can also spin-dry your laundry. The Redmi 1A washer is 944 mm tall and 545 mm wide. It weighs 32 kg and has a rated power input of 310 W. The manufacturer promises low noise during washing thanks to an air damper that reduces vibrations. However, the device doesn’t offer the option to connect to a smartphone and it’s simply a “regular” washing machine.
While similar washing machines in China are sold for over 1000 yuan (130 € / 3400 CZK), the Redmi 1A comes at a price of just 799 yuan. In other words, an excellent €105 / 2700 CZK.
