- Xiaomi launched a crowdfunding campaign for the Mijia Smart Fish Tank 2 Pro on the Youpin platform.
- It’s a 31-liter tank made of super-white glass with 1.47″ color LCD display on the front rim.
- Included is an automatic feeder with both manual and intelligent modes, plus app notifications.
- The biggest change is the redesigned two-stage filtration with a U-shaped water channel and a quieter pump.
Xiaomi’s smart home ecosystem has had its share of oddities for years, and aquariums have been part of it from the very beginning. However, the novelty the company just started selling is the first one worth calling a real upgrade: the Mijia Smart Fish Tank 2 Pro now has a proper display, an automatic feeder, and filtration rebuilt from the ground up. And they’re still selling it at a price you’d pay for a regular aquarium of this size—without any electronics.

31 liters of super-white glass plus a display on the front rim
The new model is a 31-liter wide-view tank—a format that fits perfectly on a sideboard or a desk, where you can create a proper aquascape. The glass is so-called super-white, with high light transmission and no green tint you often get with cheaper aquariums. Thanks to it, the colors of the fish and plants look the way they really do.
On the front rim of the lid, there is 1.47″ color LCD display, which shows the water temperature, the device status, and any alerts. It sounds like a small thing, but in practice it’s exactly what saves you dozens of app openings every day—just look at the water temperature across the room. The lighting is handled by full-spectrum RGB LED lighting with additional red LEDs for plants, plus a separate spot light for ambience.
Filtration is the real change
This is where Xiaomi put in the most work. Water passes through multi-layer filtration media in a precise sequence, so impurities are captured step by step and there’s no backflow or dead zones where filtration would lose effectiveness. The biological filter insert has a water path in the shape of U, which extends the contact time between the water and bacteria—and it’s exactly that which determines whether your aquarium stays clear.
Above it sits a multi-function inlet chamber with multi-stage flow direction, and most importantly a 5W waterproof expansion port. You can remove the chamber and insert a UV lamp or a heating rod without having to modify anything—which is very practical for an aquarium where every extra cable matters.
The pump features a fully copper, four-pole brushless motor with silicon-steel plates designed for low magnetic losses. Xiaomi expanded the inlet grille, the impeller channel, and the clearance in the chamber, so the pump is less likely to clog—and added a ceramic shaft, sound insulation, and a fully sealed motor. The goal is clear: so your living-room aquarium doesn’t buzz.
A feeder that will survive your vacation
The automatic feeder is built right into the tank and works in manual and smart mode. You set the feeding frequency and portions, and according to the manufacturer, one fill can last for months of regular feeding. If feeding doesn’t happen for any reason, the app will send you a notification — exactly the detail that makes the difference when you’re away for a week.
In the Xiaomi Home app, you can feed remotely, switch the pump levels, track the temperature curve, and set the light to turn off after you open the lid.
What’s more, based on how many days it’s been since you set up the aquarium and what fish you have (and how many), it automatically adjusts the lighting and filtration mode. Voice control via the Xiao Ai assistant works for now only in China.
Powered by a power bank and other small details
Interesting detail: the aquarium runs on USB power 5V/2A, so during a power outage you simply plug in a regular power bank and the aeration pump keeps going. For an aquarium where hours without water circulation mean trouble, this solution is surprisingly useful.
Xiaomi also added side ventilation to help reduce condensation on the glass, a lid to prevent fish from jumping out, and carry grooves for transport. These are the kinds of details that were missing in the first generation and that aquarium hobbyists will likely appreciate even more than the display itself.
How is it different from its predecessors?
Xiaomi isn’t new to this segment. The first Mijia Smart Fish Tank had simpler filtration and no display. A year later, the Mijia Smart Desktop Fish Tank arrived with an unusual vertical orientation — which we already covered on Xiaomi Planet. The Pro model is a bigger leap than both in what you can’t see — the water path and the pump.
The photos above show older models — the original Mijia Smart Fish Tank on the left, and the vertical tabletop version on the right. The new Pro model looks different: it’s wider, has a more prominent lid with a display, and a bulkier rear filtration section.
