MIUI 12.5 is getting a new battery protection system and intelligent charging

Xiaomi’s user interface called MIUI is well known for its wide range of useful features. The latest generation, MIUI 12, raises the bar even higher.

You’ve probably already noticed on our website the latest news about the expected update to version 12.5. It should bring a lot of improvements, both from the functional and design point of view. We’ve also learned that the developers focused on the battery and its optimization.

MIUI 12.5 will bring better battery charging optimization

Xiaomi really focuses on optimizing individual smartphone components within its MIUI system. Among the most important areas is certainly the battery and charging, and the manufacturer has now turned its attention to this area.

As you can see in the screenshot above, in the Chinese beta version of the interface MIUI 12.5 21.2.1, a new menu called “Smart Charge Protection” has been added, which translates to intelligent charging protection.

Once you enable this feature, the reworked algorithms will evaluate smartphone usage in order to charge optimally and protect the battery. The phone will thus learn on its own when it needs to increase charging performance and when it should reduce it.

This ensures better battery life and slower battery capacity degradation. The algorithms will assess when you typically unplug the smartphone in the morning, so it’s always ready by morning with a full charge. So during the night, the smartphone can charge with lower power to save the battery.

This is exactly the feature that many smartphone users will truly appreciate. In a time when we’re hearing more and more about 80 W wireless charging or 120 W wired charging, automatic power regulation really hits the right spot.
