Do you use a Xiaomi smartphone, or one from a sub-brand like Redmi or POCO? In that case, you’ll definitely know the software graphical interface MIUI. This time, the Chinese manufacturer is preparing a new version of this interface for us, called MIUI 13, and we already know the new, expected features included in the update.
MIUI 13: New software update
After months of development and ongoing updates to versions MIUI 12 and MIUI 12.5, we now have several leaks about the features of the upcoming MIUI 13 version. These are the expected features of the new interface, published on forums:
- Ability to add reminders to important notifications and manage them
- Advanced and improved backups
- Ability to change the shape of the system font
- More information about internal storage
- New audio options for the screen recording feature
- Improved system animations
- Ability to create quick notes from the home screen
- Improved super wallpapers
- Access to the battery feature settings
- Interactive and more advanced “mini-apps”
- New AI and camera enhancements for all devices
- Ability to enter documents using shortcuts
Changes and improvements to the interface
Even though the forums mention some expected features, the implemented novelties were revealed to us only by the MIUI 13 system beta version. And that’s exactly these changes we’ll cover in today’s article. Here are some of them:
Virtual RAM expansion
Devices with the MIUI 13 interface will be able to virtually expand their RAM memory. Xiaomi is one of the other manufacturers joining this expansion trend. The key to this feature is taking over a portion of the internal storage, which expands the RAM by a certain amount. The goal is smoother navigation directly in the interface itself, as well as better optimized multitasking (using multiple apps at the same time).
Gesture Turbo 2.0
System gestures and animations have always been a hot topic among users. Do they slow down the system? Do they affect the user experience? Xiaomi announced that it is working on new gestures in MIUI 13. We don’t know more details yet, but we expect that their optimization will improve the user experience.
Minimalist software design
The new MIUI 13 graphical interface should be based on the Android 12 operating system. And it’s exactly according to this operating system that the overall interface design will be shaped. This is a significant step forward, and the minimalist approach will be noticeably different and simpler compared to the current versions on Xiaomi smartphones.
App widgets in the style of iOS
Images from the MIUI 13 beta version also reveal interactive app widgets that are likewise under development. There’s no doubt that the widgets are inspired by the competing iOS resp. iPadOS system you may know from Apple devices. Xiaomi is now bringing these features through its own interface and adapting them to match its style and apps.
You can look forward to widgets that show the weather or the battery percentages of the device or connected accessories. Individual elements will be customizable, several sizes will be available, and through their design they’ll be integrated into the minimalist rest of the software.
