Soon, the long-awaited Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ processor will be presented. On this occasion, we’ll also see a new smartphone from the Xiaomi group—and we’re just guessing which one it will be.
A new Redmi smartphone?
The news was shared by Redmi CEO Lu Weibing via the Chinese social network Weibo. The information said that May 20, alongside the unveiling of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ processor, we’ll also learn about a new Xiaomi smartphone with that same chip.
So far, nowhere has it been clarified which device it will be, but since the Redmi CEO mentioned it, it’s probably a smartphone from their lineup. The rumor is the Redmi K50 Ultra model.
This smartphone could also later reach global markets, via POCO. With this move, the Redmi phone would become the most advanced device that the brand has released on the market so far.
Besides a top-tier processor, we could also get 20-watt charging, an AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, and high-resolution, high-quality cameras.
Maybe we’re in for a surprise
This upcoming smartphone doesn’t necessarily have to be from Redmi, and there are reports that it could also be the announced Xiaomi 12T smartphone.
What would personally make us happiest would be the release of the truly long-awaited Xiaomi 12 Ultra. However, according to the latest information, it will be unveiled sometime in June or July.
Qualcomm first had production and supply issues with the prepared Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ processor. That was caused by the coronavirus in China, which is gaining momentum again—leading to factory closures. It seems that the company has already resolved these inconveniences, and on May 20 they will indeed unveil this processor.
